Latrobe's Finest
Nice list, but the ballad for Cadets 93 was Holsinger's On a Hymnsong of Philip Bliss. I'm surprised no one has mentioned this one yet, but it's what I instantly thought of when I saw the topic: Phantom Regiment 1989-New World Symphony I'll think of 9 more later. BRASSO
Thanks for that correction. I also liked the ballad the year The Cadets theme was " To tame the perilous skies", but really don't know the name of it. But the ballad soared and fit the theme perfectly for them I thought. It's from the beginning of the actual piece, and as much as I like all of the rythmic stuff later in it, the first 4 minutes still are my favorite. +++++84BDSop beat me to it. Yes, that's it.... it was in the beginning. Some wonderful creative work on those brass arrangements. Great stuff there, really seemed like flght with those brass charts the arranger gave The Cadets that year. SuperTrumpet64
It's hard to put these in any order, so in no particular order: Phantom '08 - Oh that solo gets me every time Star '85 - Why over all the other Star ballads? Life long Disney fan (It hit to my inner child.) Phantom '04 - Oblivion is one of my favorite songs Bluecoats '92 - Beatles, oh yeah. Spirit '07/BDB '09 - Hide and Seek, great song Cadets '93 - Hymn Song, very nice. (I just played this too, last semester) SCV '89 - Take source music I like and do it beautifully = win. Crown '09 - Somewhere Over the Rainbow/Somewhere Troopers '09 - Maybe it was the fact they were in finals, maybe it's because I have a lot of love for them. Maybe outside the context of the show I wouldn't like it so much, who knows, I just love it. Cavaliers '95 - Jupiter. That's all I need to say. Honorable mentions: '09 Memphis Sound - Hey try pulling off what we did. 15 horns in finals. (And sound like we did on that.) Phantom '89, '03, '06, '07 - Didn't want a list full of phantom Star '90 Bluecoats '08, '09.
