Bob984
Guardsmen went from 31st (1975) to 12th (1976), a 19-spot leap. Marauders would have equalled that achievement from 1984 to 1985 (43rd to 24th), if not for the disqualification of Eclipses in '84. Guardsmen's 19 position improvement is the winner thusfar.....I was/am looking for actual number of positions moved up from one year to the next in the DCI era, not including 1st years or coming off inactive years.........19 is quite impressive, and I was at 76 nationals when they made it in for the 1st time........ scottgordon
Les Eclipses in 1986, first score of the season was 37. Finished in 14th during finals week, almost made finals. And in a show after finals broke 90. They nearly tripled their score. Really fun show, too!
Sam98
Bleu Raeders - 1972Went from not being a corps to 12th Place DCI In which case, we'll have to count Star of Indiana-- 1984 = no corps 1985 = 10th place DCI

One reason we now have prelims and finals on different days. Sop soloist came off the field with blood running out of the bell of his horn! Pushed so hard to make finals, they were shot, but it was fun! BTW - Any others of the "Kentucky Guardsmen" on DCP?

They tied for 10th with Freelancers in prelims, actually. Must have lost the coin flip, though, as they performed before Freelancers in finals. Was the schedule really that tight? Guardsmen were third-to-last in the prelim performance order. If either of the following corps made the cut, they'd have had to head straight for the gate to perform again. At least they came in 4th at Prelims and could catch their breath during the first half of Finals. 1976 Westshoremen came in 11th at Prelims and was recorded in standstill less than an hour after we came off the Prelims field. We had to hurry because things were running late and as soon as we were done the gates were opened to let people in for Finals.
freakyswotboy
What about Spirit of Atlanta? I don't know what they did in 77, but they made finals in 78.
oldsoprano
What about Spirit of Atlanta? I don't know what they did in 77, but they made finals in 78. We finished in 23rd place our first year in 1977 (24th if you count the Bridgemen), and 6th place in 1978.
