Scoutnout
Sax is a reed instrument. It's a woodwind. But for the sake of your interesting question...I could get used to trombones, or tromboniums (My uncle is principal trombone for the Springfield symphony and my brother's BS is in trombone performance with a teaching degree. I might be a little biased with trombones). And a true french horn would be interesting, too, if you could keep the darn thing in tune. They are brass instruments. I wouldn't quit drum corps as a result of their inclusion any more than I thought to when they went any-key.No sax, clarinet, flute, oboe, double-bassoon, etc. Thereby it's unique. See now I dont get this. Trombones to be may have that brass sound i guess .. look more bandy than anything, I would HATE to see that on a field myself you could take a head off with that slide or whatever its called ,,,lmao
AmmerMP
Thinking you are confusing the word "BUGLE" and "BRASS" mixed up.... for that reason, that is why it is drum and BUGLE corps.

AmmerMP
WHAT !!!! We dont have "marching" out there on the field.... I believe a company front would be considered marching... are you discfribing the early years of DCI...? There is definately maneuvering out there.... like you trying to justify this point... any "pass-thru" you may have seen or done WAS Maneuvering... sorry
garfield
also the other poster felt trombones would be ok,,,,, now im confused its not Drum and Bugle, kinda makes that argument weak then .. Now come on. I'm a simple percussionist, but a bugle is a brass sound. Just like a piccolo-soprana or a contra-bass. A flugel, a baritone, a trombone - they are all brass sound to my dumb drummer ear. A reed does not produce a brass sound. Um, I'm thinking, by design. AmmerMP
Listen Scouty... Im not in the mood to really have a pi$$ing match with you........ you have your views.... I have mine.... we believe what we believe.... and with your position on this... I have declared done in my clarification book..
garfield
maybe tiime for a name change...we also dont have marching and manuevering anymore either, JMO Seriously, I'd probably not have a great problem with renaming it Drum and Brass Corps. Except a bunch of plumbers would show up for a convention. Bugle is a little more clear, I think.
ChwyNiblet
Drum and Brass/Woodwind corps. I actually like the sound of that. Bring on the woodwinds.

If we open it up about trombones, or a piccolo I dont think people wnat to see that out there eiter.
