Did Bartok take your lunch money one day on the playground? Not going to fight you on here, I personally love SCV's show, but just wondering why you hate the show and song selection? I'd love to say that Bartok made fun of me as a kid, but there's just something about some of his melodies - especially Concerto for Celesta, that I just loathe. Not attractive music at all - it's like smashing fists on the piano. I'm meh on Concerto for Orchestra, but this show really did not grab me in the slightest. <shrug> It doesn't turn me off of Vanguard; I can see where others might like it. But for me, no thanks. No "epic" shows, though, like Spartacus, Triple Crown, Finish, Sheherezade, Summer Train Blues Mix, Machine, Faust, On Air, The Zone, Niagara Falls or the like, though... Love - 5 Phantom Regiment Blue Stars Blue Knights Madison Scouts Academy Like a great deal - 4 Boston Crown Bluecoats Mandarins Like - 6 Spirit Teal Sound Pacific Crest Cavaliers Pioneer Cadets Not a big fan -5 Troopers Colts Cascades Glassmen Crossmen Hope for Better next year - 3 Blue Devils SCV Jersey Surf Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
skewerz Posted August 10, 2010 Share Posted August 10, 2010 LIKE Phantom Regiment (hated phantom in the 80's..now one of my faves) Blue Stars (still too many props, but better than riding bicycles) Blue Knights (fave BK show since Star Trek) Madison Scouts (fave of the year) Academy (getting closer to finals) Boston (liked last year a tick better, but still some good stuff) Crown (still kinda slow, but as music is my favorite part of drum corps, it's a like) Bluecoats (most BD-like show of the bunch, yet has some music I like) Cavaliers (has moved up since the beginning of the year) Pioneer (like the opening...music is memorable) Cadets (couldn't stand them in 05, 06, 07, and 08...probably my second fave this year...jeffrey needs to take a hike though) meh... Blue Devils (marching is incredible...don't like the music at all) SCV (has a couple moments I like....just a couple) Teal Sound (although if they'd lose the guitar and bass, I'd be inclined to move them up) Troopers (just boring to me this year) haven't seen enough of the others to establish an opinion... LOVE- Bluecoats- This show is so awesome Cavaliers- Favorite Cavaliers show ever Madison Scouts- Madison is back! SCV- I love the approach SCV has been taking lately, and I like the music REALLY LIKE- The Academy- Great to see them moving up Blue Knights- Their low brass is amazing Blue Stars- I like the show, and holy @$ mellophones Boston Crusaders- Shostakovich is great, Paganini is good too Cadets- Good to see them making the changes to sell this show Carolina Crown- What a hornline, and they're doing Mahler, so I'm happy Phantom Regiment- The entrance and exit are what Jupiter dreamt of when they designed the horns Spirit- I like this show, I think it should be doing better DECENT- Blue Devils- Just cause. It's a good show, squeaky clean, and they're selling it well, just doesn't do it for me. But I do love what they're doing with Laura Cascades- Bit repetitive, but I still like it Colts- Only seen it once, but it was okay Crossmen- Needs work, the source music is great for the Crossmen, I just feel let down watching this one Glassmen- Little bit too dirty for me to enjoy Jersey Surf- America.... Star 92 Jr? Manadrins- Eh, just because. Can't really remember much about it Pacific Crest- Their opening set makes me sad inside Pioneer- Best Pioneer corps ever Teal Sound- I like their source music, so I enjoy the show Troopers- Step down from last year, but it's decent.
