Cadets to stay in DCI

Recommended Posts

I don't speak for DCI, Guardling... but I've talked with a couple of people that I believe are in the info loop who both essentially tell me the very same thing without going into detail, ie use common sense here they tell me, when it comes to the chances the non G-7 Corps are going to support any proposal that negatively impacts their Corps. After reading the Power Point proposal, and Jeff Reams update, does anybody see much in there that would allow you to think that this somehow benefits the non G-7 Corps? I sure don't. So unless there is something we don't know, using just common sense here, there's little chance of this proposal getting the votes it needs to be approved, then implemented, imo.

I can see some of the non G-7 corps who think the WSOD will not work so they might vote to let them try it in 2011 just so that they can have proof it won't work and then it will be a dead issue in the future. Otherwise, this is just going to keep coming up again and again.

. . ."staying within DCI" for 2011 doesn't mean anything, as the "World Series" concept is an attempt to be in both DCI and the "new circuit" at the same time, anyway.

If I didn't know better, I'd say this was an attempt at misdirection.

. . .if I didn't know better.

Depends on what your definition of "is" is.

Work for who? There's no way the World Series helps anyone outside the G7.

I think the "compromise" and "agreement" that I like best is ignoring the G7 proposal and assigning them a touring schedule that keeps these seven corps very busy touring with all the other DCI corps in 2011. They clearly had too much time on their hands this summer. Idle time is the Devil's Workshop.

TWEEET! LAPS! Run Laps Around This Country!

I can think of 9 dates off the top of my head where they shouldn't be within 500 miles of their intended destination.

What's the penalty for missing a show these days? And if multiplied by 9?

George, pulling the rug out from under 38 other corps isn't promoting the health of the activity. It only benefits seven corps, period. How does that support the mission of DCI as a "brotherhood"?

I thought DCI makes a schedule outline and the corps choose which shows they would like to attend. Otherwise, wouldn't DCI make sure all corps compete in relatively the same number of shows if they told corps which shows they had to be in.

Clearly, that means that somebody blinked. Someone folded. Someone caved. They had their bluff called.

But the timing is interesting. Why would G1 put this out in the public domain tonight? Is he looking for positive publicity in advance of Quarters? Is he afraid his corps will be booed during one of the performances at Indy? Is he afraid that the situation will hurt souvie sales or donations this week? Who knows what is rolling around, inside of his cabeza. But this man never does anything without a reason.

Already has, I did not spend a single dollar while in Indy on any G7 souvie booth nor did anyone that I was with after I explained what was going on

I believe you're correct in the general idea there. The corps have had some say about where they would be in June, July, and August, and how many shows they would perform with how many days off in between just for rehearsal. But I would guess there is no formal written agreement between corps and DCI on this that establishes it as policy. I would guess that what you say has been done as a custom, mutually negotiated between each corps and DCI. I could be wrong.

And while my LAPS! post was of course partly in jest, if I'm on the DCI board in this situation, I think I'd be looking to reestablish some control here. Perhaps some of what used to be subject to negotiation and input is now a DCI board decision. The first G7 proposal was an attempted coup, after all. Following a touring and performance schedule set by DCI should be part of the All In or All Out choice each of these corps is faced with. If I'm setting the schedule, not only do they not just get to pick nine key weekend shows where they appear alone together, but they are touring actively and performing perhaps a more rigorous schedule than they've enjoyed in recent years... scattered among ALL the other DCI corps. After all, they said they were the draw, right? So maybe we let them draw about five nights each week that way.

Someone please explain to me what the Name G-7 means?? Was this a nick name for the George 7 that stuck? or was this proposed as the official name for the group.

Supposedly, Hopkins compared his group to the Group of 7, which was a meeting othe leaders of the 7 largest economies of the world. (U.S., Canada, Britain, France, Germany, Italy, and Japan.) They met each summer, to decide on the direction of the world economy. The location was rotated each year to a different city in each of the member countries. (I think the group has expanded out now to include China, Russia, and possibly some other countries. I know there is a G20, which includes the largest 20 economies in the world.)

So this is simply another sign of their egomania. They are now comparing themselves to the world's greatest political leaders. Benito Mussolini would be shocked at their behavior.
