supersop
UGH that was hard!!!!!!!!!! I voted 88 for top to bottom, but 87 and 89 are hanging right there oh so very close. Those 3 years were IMO the very best in DCI history.

madalumni
I agree with Dan. It was a tough choice between 87,88, and 89. All were awesome years, but I went with 88 by a hair. The entire top 12 for those years were very entertaining and diverse. Many different styles and approaches were used by each Corps and all were magnificant in their own way. Just look at the 88 lineup .. visualizing those shows makes me grin from ear to ear. A 12 pt spread from 1st to 15th with Crossmen, Dutchboy and Freelancers trying their darndest to knock off Sky Ryders for 12th (all within 1.4 of each other in Semi's and Crossmen and Dutchboy had tied in Quarterfinals). 1 97.100 Madison Scouts Concerto For Guitar and Jazz Orchestra * Malaguena 2 96.900 Santa Clara Vanguard Phantom of The Opera 3 96.300 Blue Devils Happy Days Are Here Again Amazon * Old Black Magic * Goodbye Yesterday * Since I Fell For You Amazon 4 96.100 The Cadets Third Symphony 5 95.100 The Cavaliers Firebird Suite 6 93.500 Phantom Regiment Romeo and Juliet - Romeo and Juliet Amazon 7 92.800 Star of Indiana Porgy and Bess 8 90.600 Velvet Knights Magical Mystery Tour - Part II 9 89.300 Spirit Petrouchka - Petrouchka 10 89.100 Suncoast Sound Symphonic Dances for the Contemporary Child 11 86.700 Bluecoats Old Black Magic * Take Five * Autumn Leaves 12 85.100 Sky Ryders Sound of Music Even Marauders 21st place show was pretty smokin - Dracula!!! corps8294
I'm going say the entire decade. A lot of corps, great shows, great tours, great crowds, longer seasons. My corps started the decade near death, and rose through the ranks of CCI, DCM, and DCI and ended the decade winning the A-60 world championship in 1989! After another 20 years, they now find themselves amongst DCI's top 12 elite, again. Pretty cool! Sentimental favoritism to 1987 and 1989. FHdork
I went 84...along with 3 other people (at this point) - mostly because I was there and had a great time. However, 88 was tough to NOT vote for...such a great season -
garfield_cadets
6 93.500 Phantom Regiment Romeo and Juliet - Romeo and Juliet Amazon I bet she was a real monster! LOL j/k 1988 had the better all around top 12. Amazing shows, top to bottom. My all-time fave show was from '87 (care to guess? ).
arrangerx
Hehehehe. . . my favorite is 1980. . . because I loved every show, and because it was my first year marching. . . I watched in amazement, and listened to those Ken Kobold tapes for YEARS after that. I learned to play along with all the solos in every corps on soprano. It's personal, obviously. For sheer entertainment and variety, 1988 is the Finals of the Decade. . . but in my heart, 1980 means the world to me. Catan
I too picked 1988 (for many of the reason previously mentioned). But I especially enjoy Suncoast - what a show! Also, I don't hear much praise for 88 Cadets, which I think is an outstanding show as well.
