Defining a corps

Recommended Posts

There have been alot of discussions about what show from what year defines a particular corps. Here are some of mine...comment and add yours! :satisfied:

1987 SCV (My favorite show of all time, bar none.)

1986 Blue Devils

1989 Phantom Regiment

1995 Madison Scouts

1990 Star of Indiana

1988 Garfield Cadets (Show that year in West Chester, Pa. and the last 30 seconds of their opener was one of the greatest moments I ever experienced in drum corp. It was other wordly and the crowd erupted like I have never experienced since)

Hmm...maybe I can answer this as to "what show do I think of first when I think of a certain corps?"?

Phantom Regiment, I think of 2003.

Cadets, I think of 2000

Cavs, 2001

Blue Devils, 2003

SCV 1999

Scouts 1995

Spirit, the TIME show, I think that was 2002 or 2003.

Of course, since I've only become a fan of Drum Corps in 1999, my answers are from that year on. I imagine some of the older members here have different memories.

Cavies 2006 (Machine,enough said)

Phantom 2008 (Try to get any non drum corps follower to name any other Phantom show other than this one!)

Blue Devils 2003 (This defined the Devs confidence and effortless aura of cool to me)

Cadets 2005 (Wow)

Cavies 2003 (Spin Cycle)

Phantom 2008 and 1996 both come to mind

Scouts 1996

Bluecoats 1998 (Best music/arrangements they've EVER played, IMO)

Blue Devils 1992 (When a man...)

Velvet Knights 1992 (Magical Mystery Tour III)

BK 2006 (Dark, dissonant music of one kind or another). Though I'm hoping I'll think of 2011 as the epitome of BK from here on out

Crusaders 2000 (Red)

Crown 1996 (Chess)

Crossmen 1997 (Colors of Jazz)

Glassmen 2006 (Beethoven)

SCV 2006 (Moto Perpetuo) with 1992 for the old-school memory

And just for fun...

Kiwanis Kavaliers 1997 (Evita)

Note: most of my opinions are based on videos; having only been a fan since 2005, there aren't too many shows I've seen live, and I've inevitably seen the unfinished product of each show (I like in the Dallas area).

Blue Devils: 1999

Phantom Regiment: 2003

The Cavaliers: 2000

Bluecoats: 2010

Crossmen: 1992

The Cadets: 1984

Madison Scouts: 1988

Carolina Crown: 2008

Blue Stars: 2010

Santa Clara Vanguard: 1999

Heh someone closer in age  Know the 70s/80s better than today so from that era

Cadets - 84 (West Side Story and quote someone yelled to me when the Cadets came on "Here Come the Pros  )

Spirit - 79/80 big brassy and a sop cranking out Dixie at the end of "Sweet Georgia Brown" concert at B'ham brought out a roar you could hear over the songs last chord

Madison - what else 75 and blowing out the seats from behind the far sideline on the first chord and pure gutsy power rest of the show

BD/SCV to much to chose from

BD - Channel III (all 6-7 minutes), Legend of the One Eye Salior concert with drum visuals, etc

SCV - mix of the clasical and Fiddler on the Roof

won't get into corps that are no longer with us...
