skywhopper
how long were each of those top four streaks? Here's what I came up with (DCI era only) in terms of streaks of four or more fourth place plus placements in the corps given in the OP: Madison Scouts 1973-1976 (4) Star of Indiana 1990-1993 (4) Carolina Crown 2008-2011 (4) Phantom Regiment 1976-1979 (4) 2005-2008 (4) The Cavaliers 1989-1992 (4) 1998-2011 (14) The Cadets 1982-1988 (7) 1992-2005 (14) Santa Clara Vanguard 1972-1979 (8) 1981-1989 (9) 1997-2002 (6) Blue Devils 1975-1990 (16) 1992-2011 (20)
Tez
BD has 15 guard trophies now, not 16 The Blue Devils won Colorguard in: 1982 1984 1986 1990 1992 1995 1997 1998 1999 2001 2003 2006 2008 2009 2010 2011 By my count, that is 16. It's amazing that of the 3 major caption awards, this is the one most dominated by the "Big 3." Collectively they have won every single Guard trophy since Phantom Regiment in 1988. I'm genuinely surprised by this. Wow!
bchorn
This stat probably won't be much of a surprise but I thought I would mention it anyway. In the last 30 years, there have only been 4 times that the Cadets, the Blue Devils or the Cavaliers did not win or tie for 1st place. Swine
Ok, you're going to have to provide PROOF that BD won Guard in 1982. My proof is from an end-of-year DCW letter where April Gilligan (then member and later Caption Head) wrote of there being no Guard trophy. You may be correct in that they did not award an actual guard trophy that year.... I don't know the details. But every time here on DCP we begin the topic of caption awards through the DCI era.... everyone usually agrees that BD won in 1982.... so yeah... there's my "proof"..... the old reliable DCP. Anyone else want to weigh in?
fsubone
When BD had their first two three-peats interrupted in 1978 and 1981, it was the by the Santa Clara Vanguard, and when it was interrupted in 1998 and 2011, it was by the Cadets. I think it's fair to say "Blue Devils won High Guard" in 1982: even if there was no trophy given, if there were scores than someone had the highest score/won

As a former Cadet, I would like to thank SCV for allowing Garfield the opportunity to hold the only 3pete title from 83-85 .. and I find it only fitting that Cadets were the ones to break up BD's chances that past 2 times. Mildly poetic I would say.
