Hanging out with almost the entire corps on "The Wall" (the Revere Beach seawall) every night after practice.

Beautiful women, listening to great tunes, drinking ice-cold "beverages," and eating Kelly's Roast Beef Sandwiches, french fries, onion rings, and whole fried clams (not clam strips, which are uncivilized.)

We hung out all-year-round, not just when the "corpies" came to town for auditions, camps and tours.

Hanging out at the Wall became socialization tie-that-binds us. It may have just for a short time or all night, but it was the common experience that brought us closer, sometimes closer than we were with buddies back in the neighborhood, classmates, and even family. When other corps "housed-in" with us during local competitions, we brought them along.

The Bernie Schwartz Show

Back in 1971 SCV was coming back from VFW Nationals in Dallas (then the DCI Championship of that time) and we had a stop in Needles California which is probably the hottest place in the United States (Mohave Desert). That evening after we arrived in Needles we all went into town to the local movie theater to see the Beatles movie - Let it Be. The only reason we went there was because it was one of the few places in town that had air conditioning. After the movie we all when back to the Needles HS gym where we did an impromptu production show (ala Glee) on the gym stage sort of like a Johnny Carson Show (before Jay Leno for you youngsters). One of our contras acted as the host of the evening (Johnny Carson Style) but he named himself Bernie Schwartz (the real name of Tony Curtis) where he started the evening telling jokes and then he would introduce various corps members who would jump in and do some type of small act, others would sing a song, and one of the lead sops did a great Jerry Lewis impression. We laughed our heads off that night! Having just won VFW Nationals it was great way to end a memorable season!

The evening rehearsal block in California....we were rehearsing at a stadium that was on a hill, and we got the view of the mountains during sunset. The weather was perfect. Unforgettable.
