Closest Finals score?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys. I was thinking about this today, if we could make a chart of the spreads between first and second in the past 40 years of DCI?

I know the closest was '08, and that there were a lot of Finals decided by .1, but what about the others?

I'm not talking about ties, I'm talking about a clear distinction between 1st and 2nd.

Can someone help fill in the gaps?

Also tossed in 08 Open Class, since it was so close.

1.) 2008 World Class- .025

2.) 2008 Open Class- .050

3.) 1993 World Class- .1

4.) 1987 World Class- .1

5.) 1984 World Class- .1

Thanks for all of the help, these are the only really close ones i can think of right now.

1978 World Class - .1

2004 World Class - .175

1988 World Class - .2

1981 World Class - .3

1980 World Class - .35

2006 World Class - .35

1989 World Class - .4

1995 World Class - .5

Those are all of them at half a point or less...

For those who don't know their DCI History, 1978 was the only time in DCI history the title was decided by a penalty. Phantom Regiment and Santa Clara Vanguard tied for 1st in both Prelims (91.50) and Finals (91.55), but a 0.1 penalty in Finals dropped Phantom to 91.45 and gave SCV the title.

Just curious, what was the penalty?

Thank you! That's great info, so we now have-

1.)2008 World Class- .025

2.)2004 Div.2- .025

3.)2008 Open Class- .050

4.)1993 Div. 1- .1

5.)1987 Div. 1- .1

6.)1984 Div. 1- .1

7.)1978 Div.1- .1

8.)2004 Div.1- .175

9.)1988 Div. 1- .2

10)1981 Div. 1- .3

11.)1980 Div. 1- .35

12.)2006 Div. 1- .35

13.)1989 Div. 1- .4

14.)1995 Div. 1-.5

15.)1992 Div.1- .5

Interesting that there's only one close FInals from the '70s, and 3 from the 90s. So 11 of the 15 came from either the last decade or the 80s. Does that seem strange to anyone? Is that just when competition has been the closest between the corps?

A dropped rifle.

A dropped rifle.

Wow, a dropped rifle separating Gold and Silver. Just shows how much this activity calls for perfection!
