Here are the first batch of scores and reviews for

Hometown Jocks- 90.217. Nice, entertaining performance for the first year group. Guard is the strong point for this corps and some nice drill design as well.

Star of Florida- 89.967. Some pretty solid musical sections in the corps, but has some visual issues to overcome.

Crimson Lancers- 91.488. Guard had a near-perfect show today.

Potomac River Knights- 91.812. This veteran corps knows how to bring it during finals week. GE numbers were really strong but percussion was lagging a bit.

Confederate Regiment- 91.182. Drumline provides a strong drive for the rest of the corps.

Fortissimo Regiment- 91.688. Our first perfect caption score of the day.

Freedom Spears- 91.391. Corps has a kind of quirky show. Brassline was really strong today.

Plata Brass- 91.194. Corps had a solid overall show today but nothing that really stood out.

Standings so far:

1: Potomac River Knights- 91.812

2: Fortissimo Regiment- 91.688

3: Crimson Lancers- 91.488

4: Freedom Spears- 91.391

5: Plata Brass- 91.194

6: Confederate Regiment- 91.182

7: Hometown Jocks- 90.217

8: Star of Florida- 89.967

If these scores are any indication, we're in for a very intense night of competition. Next update at 6:30!

Update 2- and we have some interesting numbers.

Majestic- 93.319. These guys came out on fire after the break! It's impressive to see how a corps that started up during the season could get to the level they're at in the visual department. This group could be be a dark horse for a finalist spot.

Roselle Park Conquistadors- 92.504. A long-time competitor and a sentimental favorite to secure a spot in finals, Roselle Park had a really strong showing today. After struggling to break into the top echelon of corps for much of the season, they put on a really strong show in the GE and guard departments. If their percussion can come through, this could be the year they make the top 12.

Iron Knights- 91.646. Another first-time corps that's enjoying a successful season, Iron Knights have one of the most demanding music books on the field. Tonight however seemed like a struggle to rise to the challenge of that book.

Staffordshire Regiment- 91.641. The kids from England did their country proud with their performance tonight, but the judges didn't seem to buy into their program.

Lake Ontario Crusaders- 91.745. Ontario Crusaders have had a breakout season this year, competing with top-flight corps on a regular basis. The corps doesn't have many weaknesses, but the judges seemed to think that the visual package needs to gel a little more.

Cincinnati Light Brigade- 93.018. The Light Brigade were scrambling to make it to the gate for their performance time, but once they got on the field, they put together a splendid all-around performance.

Avengers- 92.129. Avengers' hornline was a house of fire tonight, playing some of the cleanest licks we've heard all season. That strong brass line could carry them all the way to finals.

Cryptic Paradox- 91.261. This newcomer corps has been something of a paradox all season long. Their show is quite intellectual and needs more than one viewing to grasp. They were good musically tonight but were a little sluggish visually.

Standings so far:

1: Majestic- 93.319

2: Cincinatti Light Brigade- 93.018

3: Roselle Park Conquistadors- 92.504.

4: Avengers- 92.129

5: Potomac River Knights- 91.812

6: Lake Ontario Crusaders- 91.745.

7: Fortissimo Regiment- 91.688

8: Iron Knights- 91.646

9: Staffordshire Regiment- 91.641

10: Crimson Lancers- 91.488

11: Freedom Spears- 91.391

12: Cryptic Paradox- 91.261

13: Plata Brass- 91.194

14: Confederate Regiment- 91.182

15: Hometown Jocks- 90.217

16: Star of Florida- 89.967

Next update is at 9. The heavy hitters are waiting on deck.

Group 3 has just wrapped up- the big boys have shown up, and there are some big surprises as well that are going to shake up the field.

Ohio Valley Thunder- 93.554. The crowd was on their feet when OVT finished performing, and again when their score was announced. The Huntington contingent had an almost perfect night in GE and some strong visual scores to boot. They may have put themselves in a very strong position for a

spot in finals if they can keep up tonight's level of performance.

Nastalgia Vanguard- 92.25. The CLASS member got off to a late start this season and and have been struggling for consistency at times. While the guard, brass and percussion had really good individual performances, there were some significant visual issues in tonight's show.

Black and Gold Regiment- 91.551- B&G has shown some flashes of brilliance this season. The hornline was the star of tonight's show.

Wysteria- 91.955- Wysteria was turning DCPI on its ear earlier this season with some big upset. If the rest of the corps can rise to the level that the drumline was at tonight, there could be some more upsets in store for this group.

The Stud Bolts- 92.552- The two-time defending champs' drumline was absolutely brilliant tonight, but there were some issues in the GE department. If the staff can't address these issues quickly, the champs could be in trouble.

The Knights- 94.535- The Knights have been one of the top corps to beat all year long. They played with an intensity and passion tonight that showed they took issue with a lower-than-expected seed. Tonight's show could be the beginning of a march to a title.

Quiksilver- 95.614- Just when The Knights thought they were in the driver's seat, Quiksilver came out and stunned the crowd with their level of performance. Their score is going to be very hard to beat.

Feenicks- 93.141- Feenicks has been enjoying their best competitive season ever, and has been neck and neck with the top-tier corps at points in the season. If they can pick their GE numbers up, they should be able to get back to that level again.

Updated standings:

1: Quiksilver- 95.614

2: The Knights- 94.535

3: Ohio Valley Thunder- 93.554

4: Feenicks- 93.141

5: Majestic- 93.319

6: Cincinnati Light Brigade- 93.018

7: The Stud Bolts- 92.522

8: Roselle Park Conquistadors- 92.504

9: Nastalgia Vanguard- 92.25

10: Avengers- 92.129

11: Wysteria- 91.955

12: Potomac River Knights- 91.812

13: Lake Ontario Crusaders- 91.745

14: Iron Knights- 91.646

15: Staffordshire Regiment- 91.641

16: Black and Gold Regiment- 91.551

17: Crimson Lancers- 91.488

18: Freedom Spears- 91.391

19: Cryptic Paradox- 91.261

20: Plata Brass- 91.194

21: Confederate Regiment- 91.182

22: Hometown Jocks- 90.217

23: Star of Florida- 89.967

great reviews Matt!

Knights were a little confused with the low seating, but we didnt let us forget job #1, wow the crowd and we certainly showed we are not just going to sit back and let this go! Cant wait to see the final groups but man Quiksilver show what they are all about this season! We all know that prelimns curse anyway! :) at least it appears we will hold on to the Knight sword tonight!

Thanks to the crew at the gates speeding things up a little bit, we were able to accelerate the show a little bit and the final groups have just finished performing. Here are the final reviews and scores.

Xpress: 93.604. The Arizona corps is probably appreciating being inside for finals. Visually, this corps was spectacular tonight, demonstrating flawless marching technique. They have a good chance of being one of several corps with the potential to make finals for the first time.

Redcoat Regiment- 93.646. Redcoat Regiment has seemingly come out of nowhere in the past few days. They had two perfect caption scores tonight and they may have gotten on a roll at just the right time.

Minnesota Aurora- 93.916. The corps from up north may have been using some vibes from their fellow Minnesota corps, Minnesota Brass, to push themselves to the top. They had strong numbers all across the board tonight.

Velocity- 93.430. Velocity is another corps that's been pretty solid all season long. Only a couple slight visual issues got in the way of what was otherwise a very good performance.

Crimson Lions- 93.194. The Lions were roaring early in the season but got in a slump as the season progressed. Tonight's performance could be what kick-starts them back into championship-contending form.

Fleur de Lis- 93.782. One of the few original DCPI corps still in action, Fleur de Lis has gone from being a middle of the pack corps to a top contender. The music book was rock solid this evening, but the visual program needs a little more oomph to push them over the top.

The Elite Brigade- 93.894. After coming up short in last season's final round, Elite Brigade has been out for blood all year long and were looking nearly unstoppable tonight. However, like many of the top-ranking corps, they ran afoul of the visual performance judge. A new judge tomorrow might be the cure for their perceived marching ails.

Polaris Regiment- 94.440. Polaris had possibly the best overall music performance of the night hands down. However, the show was marred at one point by a collision between a guard member and a drummer which inadvertantly took out 4 other performers and incurring the wrath of the M+M judge.

Star of Jupiter- 95.284. Jupiter had the strongest combination of GE, visual performance and music performance tonight, which can be the keys to a championship in this game. They and Quiksilver are threatening to quickly turn what was an ultra-competitive season into a two-corps race for the title- if they can survive the dreaded "prelims curse".

Recaps and full results have been posted on the scoreboard. Congrats to the corps that made it out of an EXTREMELY tight prelims round. We'll look to be back with live recaps of tomorrow's Open and Class A events as well.
