Can you lose your World Class Status?

Recommended Posts

I think it would be nice if DCI has some sort of WGI model where you can move up or down classifications based on the year. Maybe the top 17 (or however many qualify for semis) are granted ACCESS to the World Class division. They can make the decision whether they want to move up, but they're eligible. Other corps are now considered open class, but they will have the opportunity to move up next year. Maybe even have bump-ups during the year like WGI. I know it was stated this led to corps overstretching their budget, but directors have to realize what's the point of stretching the budget to achieve World Class if you can't make it out next year?

the problem is how corps get paid for shows. you change something mid season,a nd it could throw the financial out of whack. No one gets paid to perform atWGI, so thats why that model works. You won't see the board changed how OC corps get paid, because the OC corps themselves seem to be ok with how they are paid ( or not)

Yep.

Even though both WGI and DCI share the same classification names (Open and World), the similarity ends there.

DCI classes have more to do with finances and ability to tour. In WGI it's about competitive ability (and age limitations).

Look at that, a Cascades homer. I've never seen that before. You may be more then a bit over-optimistic though. If they can re-group and clean, they have a shot at the Top 25, not the Top 12. Hate to burst your bubble, but to have a shot at Finals, they need probably 70 more people and a new show

You have to understand that they have a very hard show that is not being executed this early in the season. Once they clean it up they will blow some minds. People are quick to point out the open class corps that beat them last year, the only problem with that senerio is that they are scored on differnt books. If the Cascades and the Oregon Crusaders, Spokane Thunder wher scored on the same books, the Cascades would have beaten them by many points. They are only 17 point away from the top 12. Not a problem.

All of them are? Jersey Surf placed 3rd in 2008, Teal was 5th, so they would have to be making TOC to do better in World Class than they did in Open Class. And Mandarins won Div.2 multiple times, same with Pioneer, and Academy and Cascades.

I think the only corps that has almost equaled their success would be Crown, since they did well in Div.2 and 3 before moving up to Div. 1

He means they are actually placing lower head-to-head with Open Class groups. He's not saying "Wow, Jersey Surf used to place 3rd in Open, now they can't place 3rd in World." He's saying, "Wow, Jersey Surf used to place 3rd in Open, then they moved to World, now they're actually less competitive and couldn't place 3rd in Open today." Which is true. Surf would have placed 4th in Open last year, and Pioneer would have been 5th. This year's Cascades corps is in a similar situation.

Boggles the mind.

Last year's semis, all on the same books:

19 Blue Devils B 76.450

20 Teal Sound 75.750

21 Mandarins 75.700

22 Oregon Crusaders 75.150

23 Vanguard Cadets 72.850

24 Cascades 72.200

25 Jersey Surf 71.350

Oregon would be creaming Cascades on the same sheets right now. This year's Cascades corps is way behind (and much smaller than) last year's.

Don't be a Schater. This is a different year. The scores in Oregon and Washington where not that far off, if it was on the same scale as the semi's last year, the Cascades would have killed the Crusaders without question.

if they are 18 points down now, as they clean, and the Cavies clean...well....maybe the spread will be reduced to 12...maybe.

but hey thanks for giving us entertainment

Ok everybody, take a deep breath. The thread is about the process of a World Class Corps dropping down to open class. Please don't make this a thread about the Cascades. You can make a Cascades thread. If we keep on this track, it will end very badly.

Thanks
