warsawstory
They only played it as a encore number but I would say Cadets "Cadillac of the Skies".

burgerbob
I cant believe no one has said Crown 2012 Fanfare For the Common Man yet... so i will! I'm not sure this falls under the title of "ballad," though.
Some Random Drummer
It was mentioned earlier, but from this year's crop of shows I am totally in love with Bluecoats' arrangement of "Love Dance," and SCV doing "Hymn to a Blue Hour." John Mackey is one of my favorite contemporary composers and Hymn to a Blue Hour one of my favorite ballads for wind band, period. I've teared up every time I've heard it this season. As someone who is less familiar with the historical "great shows" of DCI history, this thread is a wonderful resource. I've already had a number of goosebump/chill moments from looking back at some of these shows. Keep the suggestions coming!
flammaster
Well if you're gonna include this year. Variations on a Theme by Eric Satie. Love that song!
Cardman
Best closers that come to mind: Madison Scouts 1988, 1995 Santa Clara Vanguard 1987, 1988, 1989 Garfield Cadets 1984, 1987 Star of Indiana 1990, 1993 Cavaliers 1991, 1992, 2002 Phantom Regiment 1989, 2008 Blue Devils 1984, 1988 Going to stop there lol. I have many more but that will do.............. Other than Cavies 92, I agree with all of those. Good choices! Ballad? We don't need no stinking ballad...but, if I HAD to pick one? 93' Phantom Regiment "Fire of Eternal Glory".
