drumguy50
I know the corps has always operated under the veil of secrecy however with the rumors swirling with Mr. Hickman's departure it seems odd not to have a replacement in place or even announcements of staff or much else. I hope they are OK but it is getting rather close to try outs tyo still not have an Executive Director.

I hope they are OK but it is getting rather close to try outs tyo still not have an Executive Director. I believe the corps is going to be just fine. What you perceive as secrecy, others may well see as the corps' normal way of operating...which is to wait until everything is finalized before sending out press releases. Not that long ago, it was a topic here about corps that seem to send out a press release whenever a staff member stubs a toe. That's not the case with Glassmen. The corps has a rock solid foundation, the result of years of nurturing financial security and infrastructure. And they have always treated their members quite well. I would have no problem encouraging prospective members to check them out. The instructional staff runs tryouts, and they'll be sure the word gets out about dates and locations. I would also have no problem giving an enthusiastic thumbs up to any parents that asked about the organization. What we might perceive as a lack of transparency regarding day-to-day operations of the corps just means that they will announce everything in a timeframe that they feel is appropriate. Management, staff and members seem to subscribe to the same ideology regarding letting time taking its course. When they find the next person they trust to guide the organization into the near future, I'm confident we'll all know about it.
Band Diddles
I've heard rumors of serious financial issues. Only rumors, but I'd like some kind of confirmation since I've been extremely excited to audition there. If they're not gona make it out this season I would be really bummed. Just want to know if I should start preparing for a different audition.
mcjordansc
We know they lost money in 2008, 2009 and 2010 by viewing their financials on Guidestar.com. Over $300K total those three years. We do not know how things went in 2011 or 2012.
HoltonH178
The Glassmen have always operated on a need-to-know basis since before the dark ages of RAMD. I think it is very professional of them and shows respect for the process and the people involved. This has been a completely normal offseason for the corps from where I sit. If you are truly concerned about the well-being of the corps, I would highly recommend donating time, money, and encouraging any kid young enough to march to consider marching with the Glassmen. They are a unique and special organization that continues to put its emphasis on providing the best lifetime experience and drum corps family to its members in an increasingly G7-style finals field. To me that is a greater distinction, reflection of the organization, and especially a testament to the character of those who have dedicated so much of themselves to the corps than any placement. You will not find classier, nor more competent individuals in DCI than those organizing the Glassmen volunteers and offices, and few causes as deserving of your charity. Plus, if you are able to give your time to the corps, I would imagine all of your curiosity would be sated of the natural course of conversation and bonding with such wonderful people. If you truly seek answers, you can get them from a place called Toledo, Ohio
myopinion
Check out the Glassmen website and Facebook page for audition dates for the 2013 season. I do believe that Sal Salas is the interm director for the Glassmen 2013 season. By the looks of things...this is a typical Glassmen style audtion season. No offense Mr. Boo but this organization has not had a rock solid foundation for many years. It is common knowledge among volunteers and members that they struggled to make it through the year. Had it not been for the deep pockets of supporters they would have met the same fate as other failed organizations met this last year. The current board of directors is secretive for these reasons. There has been no nurturing of financial security and infrastructure.
bluecoats88
I have heard that they are selling their original corps hall (I believe it is called G-East Now) which is located in east toledo. This is where they used to hold their bingo and monte carlo operations as well as other events.
