chaos001
As a matter of fact, I am a fan. Maybe I'm one of the few that's willing to admit the truth. There are some major issues with this show that the designers aren't doing anything about. And after all this is a competition. If they're not worried about being competitive then why are they doing this??? Just look at the breakdown of the scores. Same issues every show that don't seem to improve. PR should be well over 80 by now. So something isn't working. This group should be a lot better than they are too, considering how many vets there are. Sorry, just the way I see it. And yes I do hope they make huge improvements, cause they're gonna need it. Oh, I can guarantee there are tons of issues going on behind the scenes this year. These kids are having to put up with a lot more than they should. Hopefully change can come soon.

truman
I will not pretend to know what is going on "behind the scenes". My experience from watching alot of drum corps practices is that this is the time of year when you see glimpses of a show's performance potential when they run chunks in practice. Many times the full out run of a segment of the show follows runs with the met, or bops. Yesterday i saw such things. They have made some changes to the "prancercising, but didn't cut it.. The brass is starting to blend and play with more control, and when ensemble timing hits the GE goes up. Yesterday, there were definitely some different peeps running the afternoon block. Does anyone know who the gentleman is...In his 60's i believe, probably from Texas, who was in the box yesterday? He was offering comment to all sections, and was VERY complimentary of the drum corps throughout the rehearsal. Did not see JT or CC when we got there in the afternoon. While last nights performance showed some of the level i saw earlier, it still wasn't the pop I thought we might see. On our way to Mechanicsburg now, as this is the last we can see of the corps live for a few weeks, and we can't seem to get enough!

So something isn't working. That's hard to say with any certainty. We are 35 days before Finals, and Phantom's most recent score is 78.600. Historically, here's how they've improved from 35 days out: 2003 -- 81.000 >> 94.750 (4th) 2004 -- 79.650 >> 93.575 (5th) 2005 -- 84.850 >> 96.825 (3rd) 2006 -- 83.450 >> 96.850 (2nd) 2007 -- 83.950 >> 94.850 (4th) 2008 -- 81.600 >> 98.125 (1st) 2009 -- 80.000 >> 89.900 (9th) 2010 -- 83.800 >> 93.150 (6th) 2011 -- 79.550 >> 95.050 (5th) 2012 -- 78.400 >> 96.550 (3rd) So for what it's worth, they're two tenths ahead of where they were last year. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Link to discussion threads for all 2013 World Class corps

In general, it seems that they should be above 80 in comparison to their competition. I do realize that I am basically comparing scores with corps moving from the west coast.
