I am the Mother of a trumpet player potential drum corps god who may be deprived from sharing his talents with a grateful and enthusiastic drum corps public.

Fixed that for you.

Let me fix this for you:

I am the Mother of a trumpet player His in high school. marching band is nationally recognized and he is (I am) a senior now and (have) been the lead trumpet there since (my) sophomore year. Everyone tells me hes I'm very talented, (and) now (I) want to march drum corps. I let him tried out for the Phantom Regiment just so he'd stop bugging me, thinking (I) wouldnt make it, but I made the second round of callbacks and was apparently ranked pretty well. Nonetheless, I didn't let him wasn't allowed to go back because in my opinion, my mom thinks marching this summer would be a waste of money, and it would distract me from getting ready for my first year of college. As you might know, I heard the Cadets are looking for a trumpet for 2013 and he, his teacher, his band director, and the guard instructor at his school have all been nagging me to let him go to their camp because they think he has I feel like I have a very good chance of making it. What would you say to convince a your parent in my position to fly him out to New Jersey and let him (audition to) march with the Cadets this summer? Or, what would you say to convince a your parent in this position to let him march in the future?

If a parent believes that their child lacks the maturity to be ready for college because they're on tour all summer, and if the parent is not willing to financially support the endeavor, I would not stand in the way or doubt the parent's expertise in this matter. NO ONE knows a child like their parent, and it's MUCH better for a parent to play it same and not let their child march a drum corps tour than it is to let them march when a parent thinks the kid is immature or unable to handle drum corps + college prep. I will always defer to the parent in this case.

Anyone else intrigued by why the OP joined on the 16th, but waited five days before creating their first and only post?

I'd make a comment how the rest of us are playing off their screen name, but it would be way too easy.

(I'm with the ones who think this is a bunch of baloney...and this is just one more reason.)

If you go on a web forum entitled Drum Corps Planet populated entirely by current Drum Corps members, Drum Corps Alumni, Drum Corps staff, Drum Corps fans, Drum Corps auditionees, and Drum Corps member relatives to ask "What are some reasons I should support my kid joining the activity you are all so fanatic about?" you've pretty obviously already made up your mind to do so.

That's like going on a crazy cat lovers forum and asking "Should I get a cat? I'm just not sure..."
