ftwdrummer Posted August 8, 2014 Share Posted August 8, 2014 Welp. As per usual, live seasons aren't nearly as friendly to the Texas Zephyrs as off-seasons are. We've made our set of changes, and don't expect much movement from us beyond that...what you see in semis will likely be what you get in finals (if we make it). Kind of a drop off after being a spot behind making finals last season, but rest assured changes are being made as we speak. Not sure what they are feeding the Mercury corps in Open but they were on fire last night. Star of Jupiter is working on a change to the closer this morning. In World Class, it was Nastalgia Vanguard just eking out a 0.05 finish over Star of Jupiter to stand in 1st place tonight in a classic CLASS/Fanfare matchup. Ivory Brigade maintained their 3rd place position from last night while Polaris Regiment quietly moved up two positions into fourth to establish some good momentum. Last season's champs Buckeye Brass rounded out the top 5. The biggest movers in this division were Scarlet Armada (up 6 spots) and Avengers (up 7 spots). We'll see if they can sustain that momentum in tomorrow's finalists. Violet Knights slipped one position but still managed to secure a finalist spot in their first year of competition. Sadly, it was Knights of Power who found themselves on the outside looking in, missing out on the 12th spot by just 0.05, while California Knights also suffered a disappointing drop to fall all the way to 17th. Renegade Brigade and Ohio Valley Thunder found themselves in a tie for 14th a scant distance ahead of Eruption, while Pride of Salem, Red Coat Regiment and Black Beat NZ rounded out this division. In Open Class, The Marauders made a sizeable jump up to first place, finishing nearly two tenths ahead of Star of Hawaii. Prelims winner Mercury slipped a bit down to 3rd place but still looks to be in contention, along with Texas Zephyrs who had the biggest gain in this division, moving up 9 spots from prelims into 4th place. Buckeye Brass B mirrored their World Class kin's 5th place finish, just ahead of 6th place Nastalgia who also made a nice gain from prelims. A mere four tenths separate the remaining finalist corps, Abracadabra Academy, Storm Troopers, Tokyo Tornadoes, The Screws, Knights of Sound, and Euphony Vanguard- expect some really strong competition among these corps, especially from Knights of Sound who were hit hardest by the proverbial Prelims Curse and slid down 9 spots to just hang on to a finals spot. Les Blanc Chevaliers wound up in unlucky position 13 to miss a trip to finals for the first time in several years, followed very closely behind by Spirit of Indy. Finishing off this division were The Thoroughbreds, Blue Ridge Brigade, DM Paper Carriers, Huddersfield Hundred, Scarlet Regiment and The Wranglers. Finally in Class A, Xothyme gave the Forward Dynamics group their second 1st place semifinals finish of the night. A lot of people are pulling for the FD corps to finally bring home the gold after being bridesmaids so many times in the past. Buckeye Brass B and Kaiju Corps are right on Xothyme's tail in 2nd and 3rd place respectively, while Cross dropped back to 4th place after winning prelims. Hg and Knights of Note finished in a tie for 5th and will have to settle their hash tomorrow, with Nastalgia Percussion Ensemble and Cape Cod Regiment slotting in behind those two corps in 7th and 8th. In Cape Cod's case, their performance was a much-needed shot in the arm as they had been hanging on the edge of missing finals, but tonight's show put them solidly into the finalist field. 9th place saw another tie, this time between Lowell Lancers and Hoosier Regiment, neither of whom saw much movement from their prelims spots. River City Express and Swannanoa Silverstars maintained some consistency from prelims to safely lock up the last 2 spots in finals, as Scarlet Cadets and The Bolts finished over a point behind. Euphony Cadets finished solidly in 15th, while Lake Erie Storm and Kentucky Colonels accounted for the 3rd tie in this division. Mountain Beats, The Buckaroos and Green Band closed out this division. At this point, I think it's an understatement to say that I'm REALLY looking forward to tomorrow night's performances, as it looks like there are legitimately 6 or 7 corps in each division that have a strong chance to take home a title tomorrow, and you never know when a dark horse could emerge to stun everybody. Still so proud of my kids for a great season as they are always so solid but just didn't have it in them anymore. Whereas CCR blew me away really pulling it out when it mattered! The Knights as often is the case is right in the hunt and we can't wait to give tonight what we've been holding back! Going to be something special. To all of our CLASS friends especially those coming in Gold and Bronze position in World CLASS, give it all your heart tonight! We have one of the oldest and one of the newest and greatest corps right at the top! To all of our old buddies not in CLASS who made it congrats and good luck! Your going to need it! NickTheDrummer Posted August 9, 2014 Share Posted August 9, 2014 Unfortunately for the Class A Cadets, they will be heading home heartbroken, as they missed out on finals by one spot. The Open Class Regiment made some sizable changes to their program in hopes to sneak into the finals, but they didn't pan out, and the corps dropped into 19th. However, a lot of younger talent in the middle level of the organization gives them high hopes for next season! Finally, the World Class Armada were able to clean up their program and jump up to 9th place and into finals! With only 0.5 separating them from the leaders, they hope to take this momentum and channel it into one final performance. Overall, it's been a solid season for the Scarlet Corps. rayisrad Posted August 9, 2014 Share Posted August 9, 2014 It's sad to see that the Red Coat Regiment didn't make it to finals. It was a really good easy for them this year with constantly obtaining high music up till the Semis and possibly high weighted music overall season. Considering our show concept was a little weird and being our first year we managed to pull it off way better than expected. We still need a lot of work in the visual department which will confidently show in next seasons theme. Good luck to all the finalist!
