garfield
I've been trying to figure out how to amend the 990's thread with the 2012 DCI filing. But, because I reviewed them first just editing my post would mean comments would show up over 1000 posts later, so I decided to dedicate a thread specifically to them. I'll update this each year somehow, if I'm still around, remember, or care. If you've not seen the master 990s thread and are interested, you can find it HERE. It looks at all corps' 990s the same way and has data from 2009 to 2011 for most corps. As in the first study, I'll present pieces of data to encourage comments but, if none come, I'll skip right along. So don't hesitate to throw out a question or observation when you think of it else it'll likely get buried. Also from the last study, some care and some don't. All comments are welcome. If this isn't your bag, I understand. Oh, and just so there's no confusion: Disclaimer: While I work in the financial industry, this thread is not official in any capacity, and does not reflect the position or opinion of DCI, any corps, or my employer. All data comes directly from Form 990's found on www.guidestar.com, is presumed to be accurate but is not guaranteed to be so. All opinions expressed are mine, personally, are not audited, and are only based upon my amateur interpretation of the 990 forms. So, let's see how DCI did in in 2012 and what changed from the prior three years. N.E. Brigand
Can you remind me: is DCI's fiscal year the calendar year or something else? (I work in a theatre; our fiscal year is 7/1-6/30.)
Nachfolger Christi
I am sooo glad you inform us of this, garfield. It is important for people to understand the DCI is a business and a competitive one at that.
HornTeacher
Thank you for the leg work and caring to post, Garfield. I always take the position that there is no information which is useless....something can always be learned from it.

1956OPR
garfield, thank you for these DCI 990 posts. Your Nov 2012 post was superb. I presume you obtain the raw data from the GuideStar site and it appears as if additional data is available from their Premium Report. If there is a cost to you in obtaining the Premium data, I would like to offer a contribution for whatever expense you incur. Just let me/us know via PM. I'll send you a bill. No, actually, the only cost is my time and, unfortunately, due to the regulations of my industry, I couldn't accept even gratuities for what I post here. I've had a Guidestar account for years. I get enough data for us to muddle through.

HornTeacher
Sure, fire away. Thanks...but in the meantime (since I first asked), I did what I should have done in the first place and reviewed the earlier thread from 2012/2013. I think that helped -- at least partially. In reading the first post here, I was immediately struck by the revenue spike in 2011 -- 883, 211 (or an increase of 9.992%) over the previous year. Quite a jump. I even took the time to research the number of actual shows for 2010 vs. 2011, and the resulting total number of corps appearances. As you postulated on the previous thread, there were less shows in 2011 (7 less), and 35 less total corps appearances. However, I won't needlessly beat this skeletonized horse any longer. I'll let you know, however, if I have any further questions. Keep on keeping on -- this is a GREAT thread!!
