Hrothgar15
Looking back, I can't remember any shows the past few years that have started with the brass and percussion playing loud. I don't necessarily mean startlingly loud like Blue Devils 1996; something like Crossmen 1991 counts just as much. Which is the most recent one that comes to mind? I'm not one to bemoan lack of variety in show design, at least not today in 2016, but the fact that every show nowadays starts quietly and/or without the hornline playing doesn't exactly bode well for concerns of "cookie-cutter" designs. If a loud beginning can be effective (and it has been, many times), that should still remain a tool at a design team's disposal.
Hrothgar15
(I guess a lot of this has to do with the mainstreaming of the pre-show/announcement -while-playing segment, which almost seems like a requirement nowadays.)
DrumManTx
Vanguard in 2013.
Shempy
If we're ignoring preshow: Cavaliers 2010 BD 2012 SCV 2013 Madison 2015 Those all come to mind when I think recent shows with loud starts.
Eleran
Well, the opening notes of Cadets 2016 (the call from the horns & bones) is loud. Then it goes soft for a while.

Should have clarified: including pre-show.
DrumManTx
Think SCV in 2013 was still loud right off the bat. Don't remember any pre-show or build into it, just a scatter and a few counts of cymbal/drums into their first hit.
Liahona
If we ignore the pre-show intro...I say Boston Crusaders 2011 show Revolution...Beginning with I Dreamed a Dream from Les Miserables...
Hrothgar15
Anything close to this?
Liahona
Anything close to this? I can't comment on this show because I was marching that year...so I didn't get to see it... My favorite Crossmen show BITD was 1992...just freaking blew me away...One of the loudest moments I ever recall at Allentown and I go almost every year...not specifically referring to the opener in this regard...
