Kamarag
I've recently learned that a lot of corps are trying to build up larger staffs so that people don't have to spend the entire summer on the road with the corps. A lot of these guys are still in college/have regular jobs/have families, so it gets harder to commit to a 2-and-a-half-month road trip. Bingo. Two of the years I taught brass on the DCI tour, I did the full tour from the start of spring training all the way to finals. It's absolutely brutal. Not only do these folks deserve a break every now and then, it's good for educational reasons, a chance to "clear the ears" and return fresh. On the flip side I think there's something to be said for having key people be there from start to finish. Not sure if the "staff by giant committee" is really the best answer in all situations. On these larger brass staffs, many of the faculty are specialists in a particular approach or technique. By championships, it is obvious why the corps uses them.
