Shoreman Brass Classic - Avon Lake, OH - Aug 5

Definite bird theme. The DM uniforms have black and purple feathers on their shoulders. Main corps is in their regular uniform.

All horns except tubas, all guard, and all marching percussion set up in the back left corner of the field. Tubas are set up on the front of the field.

Lots of birdlike motion from the corps in the backfield.

Live singer in the pit sings the opening of Blackbird. Nice voice! Now joined by a pit member for some excellent harmonics, which the crowd appreciates.

Huge sound from the horns to finish the intro!

Wind is picking up. I kind of wish I had my jacket with me.

Such a warm and blended sound from the horns! Almost symphonic in nature!

The Blackbird theme returns for the next section of the show, this time from a baritone soloist on the 50 yard line with only pit accompaniment.

Full corps now singing. No words, just harmonies.

This arrangement of Blackbird is very somber and in a minor key. The bird in question isn't happy about it's current caged situation.

Tempo picks up. Tubas get a feature front and center. 10 of them and they have a great section sound. Baritones join in on the right, mellos on the left.

Now trumpets behind the tubas have their feature. Full line comes in and the crowd loves it!

Narration about why the caged bird sings, and now a drum feature.

I was going to put Southwind ahead of Louisiana Stars, but that would have been a mistake. Stars are on fire tonight!

Freebird!
