Fracker
I was at the show and I mostly focus on the brass-- so from that perspective I'm pretty shocked about the scores. There is no way in my mind that Pioneer should have outscored either Legends or Shadow. Both OC groups sounded fantastic and had an engaging show. Pioneer-- not so much, and their brass sound wasn't even close to matching the power of the two OC groups. Colts are unquestionably over amplified. They have 6 shotgun mics at the front of the field, and they might sound great without them but its hard to tell when almost all the volume is coming from the speakers. No way they sounded better than Madison, and honestly I can't understand why they scored higher. Madison's show plays really well in person. I admit I don't understand the scoring system and I'm pretty clueless about judging percussion and guard, but these scores make me suspicious at the least. I mean Madison did beat the Colts in both Brass and Music Analysis so your obervations are correct but the Colts just overall have a better show design than Madison does. Remember, brass and music analysis only make up 2 captions out of 8.

HW is the program coordinator. It appears that their corroboration is finally paying dividends. The Colts have began to pick up their trot to a slow gallop at this juncture. Last Sunday they were 4.95 down from X-men. Tonight just 2. By by the end of the year I think they will make us all “True Believers”! Andy Hope is a good thing! I've mentioned this before, but Jeff and Vicki MacFarlane have completely stabilized the Colts organization. Her first few years as director brought Marc Sylvester (i'm sure that spelling is off), which produced some very talked about shows (especially '14, '15). Now with Howard as program coordinator, the stability of the corps is literally undeniable. Many members return to the Colts purely to learn and be mentored by those two! Member experience is very high, vet retention is up, and recruitment continues to be at solid levels. They may not always make finals, but the Colts are a solid corps AND organization.
