It’s not a remake of Plan 9. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109707/ Edited July 18, 2020 by Terri Schehr

Martin Landau was just so good as was Johnny Depp. ML was worthy of the Oscar that year (and I loved "Forest Gump"). [...] So much better than Plan 9 from Space 1999. I remember seeing a panel of film critics on TV just before or after the Oscars that year, and one of them said he thought Ed Wood was boring, and that he'd rather watch Plan 9 from Outer Space, and I think he had a point. It was well made, but I just can't get into stories about failed artists. In that sense, it reminds me of The Secret of Joe Gould, starring the late Ian Holm. I probably wouldn't like The Disaster Artist, either. (But I'm not a big Forrest Gump fan, either. For 1994, give me Pulp Fiction, Nobody's Fool, The Shawshank Redemption, Clear and Present Danger, Four Weddings and a Funeral, and Speed, to names some of the best English-language films, although I think my favorites from that year come from Iran, Poland, and Italy.)
