Look, maybe you guys are right. But maybe you are two alumni who created brand new accounts with no posts here to trash the current administration that got the corps out of tons of debt, put it on solid financial footing, expanded programing, got it through a global pandemic, and have the on-field product headed in the right direction are exactly the type of alumni that are the problem.

You're mad because you didn't get an email response? I know for a fact the org solicited TONS of opinions in different ways (surveys, emails, etc). Just because they didn't follow up with anyone didn't mean they didn't read it or take it into account.

Why not take the OP at face value? Why the shade? The posts were well written, thoughtful, and sincere. Based on the quality of writing, they're a cut above almost everything else posted here.

Trash the current administration? What do you mean? Can you give us some specifics? This appears to be an example of any criticism or concern about the current administration being voiced as unwelcome and an attempt to hurt the organization. We can agree to disagree, but don't have to be disagreeable.

The current administration got the corps out of tons of debt and put it on solid financial footing? Have you seen the financial statements? Can you give us specifics?

I didn't get the impression the OP was mad, just sharing some information in a matter of fact way. When stakeholder groups are surveyed, the common practice is to personally acknowledge their input and share the results with them, which didn't happen in this case. Has anyone seen the report that was prepared as a result of the stakeholder survey? Is this the survey that was circulated on the internet through social media and anyone could reply to?

So funny. It's crazy when I think about all the people who smoked when I marched. I always wondered how they kept up with the demands of rehearsal and playing instruments and marching while smoking. Thank God I didn't start smoking until after I marched because I was a pack a day for a long time and I can't imagine doing that while marching. Thankfully, it's now been years since I've smoked.

My instructor in high school (hundreds of years ago) marched snare for SCV and would take a smoke break between reps. Seemed so natural then.

I was blocked by Madison on Twitter in 2019 after commenting something about hoping Blue Devils B and Vanguard Cadets don't beat them finals week. Under the corps preview video on YouTube there were comments critical to the design. All deleted.

In 2014 (or maybe 2013 - can't quite remember) I sent Jim Mason a message on Facebook. The message was just me gushing over Star. I'm a HUGE Star fan and in that moment I was listening to and watching Star like crazy. To my complete surprise, he responded to thank me for my comments and tell me what a wonderful time he had at Star and how proud he was of that organization and the achievements of it and its members.

Then, and I would never have the guts to do this face-to-face, I replied and said I felt like he was doing at Madison what he did at Star in '88 and '89 - writing shows beneath the talent of their members and therefore inhibiting their competetive success. To my surprise, again, he wrote back. I was nervous to see what he had to say. He was wonderful and kind. He told me what he thought had to be done to move a corps up the rankings and what he and the team were doing to get them there, amongst other things. I may not have completely understood or agreed with him, but I respected him even more. He could have just ignored me. He could have just shot me down. Instead, he was open to what I had to say and shared his thoughts in a concise and kind way. I will never forget that and I will always appreciate it.

That's how you handle criticsm. You don't threaten to throw someone in a lake with concrete blocks around their ankles.

That’s the way Jim is. I and two others lived with him at the Seefeldt house while in Madison. When Jim went to the Colts, he completely changed the way the corps worked, the uniform change and quality of people around him in the right places. They had a robust board and people with open minds. Did the same thing at Star albeit with some big money from Bill Cook. But still the same recipe for success. Then Brass Theater with the Canadian Brass and the the incredible Blast! Success follows him. It’s in his DNA. As a Scout brother, a Seefeldt brother and a class person, I am immensely proud of this man that came from a mid level Iowa corps, to who he is today. James Mason, I salute you. ⚜️⚜️⚜️

What a wonderful things to say about him. I've never met him or had any conversation with him other than that Facebook exchange.

Yes, I think the money helped Star get their quicker, but he definitely had a huge hand in that, and I miss that corps so much.

A good man. Sad that Komnick felt threatened and fired him. Even sadder the board was blind sided, then sat on their hands and didn't do anything. A terrible loss in many ways.

Yeah, it was terrible. Who knows where they'd be today if Mason was still there. Certainly better off than where they are now.
