MarkHornGA
I'm new to this forum so if a thread like this already exists, feel free to redirect me there! During the offseason, I would like to take some time to learn more about the history of individual corps and the various key individuals who have shaped the activity over the years. Before I take it to Google, I figured I would see if there are any good leads for that type of information. Thanks in advance!

ironlips
This 2 volume set by Steve Vickers is the Holy Grail of drum corps history: https://www.amazon.com/History-Drum-Bugle-Corps-One/dp/B00152949K/ref=sr_1_7?crid=2VQ51DWSNCYC9&keywords=History+of+Drum+and+Bugle+Corps&qid=1691597064&s=books&sprefix=history+of+drum+and+bugle+corps%2Cstripbooks%2C273&sr=1-7 Unfortunately, it has been out of print for a while, though you may find used copies on eBay or Amazon. However, I believe it is available electronically. Contact Drum Corps World: https://www.facebook.com/DrumCorpsWorld/ 2
MadScout80
https://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php?/forum/59-historical-junior-corps-discussions/ My mind went immediately to a “post your photos” thread here that had lots of interesting tidbits
bkbass98
It can take a little bit of deep diving, but many of the historical (and even more recent) corps have pretty interesting history and/or HOF sections somewhere on their website. Here's a few for you if you're interested (I only did a quick search on these four) Blue Knights: https://ascendperformingarts.org/about/our-history/ (in case you ever wondered why I Go On... is a BK tradition, which is tied directly to the late George Zingali who was working with BK at the time) Santa Clara Vanguard: https://www.scvanguard.org/hall-of-fame/ Blue Devils: https://www.bluedevils.org/about/history/ Cavaliers: https://cavaliers.org/history And you can do pretty much the same just by doing a search for the corps name (add DCI if needed) and type history. You'll get links to most if not all of the active corps and many of the ones no longer active.
bkbass98
Otherwise, a good place to start with key individuals is to search about the people the caption awards are named after: GE - Don Angelica https://www.dci.org/static/donald-angelica-dci-hall-of-fame Vis - John Brazale https://www.dci.org/static/john-brazale-dci-hall-of-fame Guard - George Zingali https://www.dci.org/static/george-zingali-dci-hall-of-fame (trust me, you'll find plenty of Zingali if you hit up YouTube as well) Brass - Jim Ott https://www.dci.org/static/george-zingali-dci-hall-of-fame Percussion - Fred Sanford https://www.dci.org/static/fred-sanford-dci-hall-of-fame (the reach that this man had on the drumming community can never be overstated, his "coaching tree" is ridiculous)
