jwscv87
I never had the opportunity to see PR live, but that is the best hornline I have ever heard via a recording. Based on the vids SCV seemed good enough to win with a great show (as did PR), but I wasn't there
acn
Regiment live '89 was unreal. '89 SCV is good, but I like '88 far better. PR should have won. Cadets is my second favorite show of '89.
CMartin444
great year all around Edited July 27, 2007 by CMartin444
A27Lancer
Preface: I was at quarters, semis and finals in 1989. Both shows are legendary. Both are in my top ten of all time. Saw "Phantom of the Opera" on Broadway and hated it. Hokey and pretentious in my opinion. SCV's performance was not perfect. The hole bothered me (as did 27th's in 1980). BUT, emotionally I was pulling for them at finals. Something about the show grabbed me and shook me and brought me to my feet about 97 times that night. PR was GREAT, and their performance was equally GREAT, but BY A NOSE, SCV.
KLHilberg
I gotta go with PR for my favorite. I felt both corps weren't a clean as they should have been in finals. Cavies were cleaner than either but they didn't have the show to win.
silvertrombone
Always liked the 88 SCV a little better. So... 89 Phantom, by a narrow margin, for me. The baritone solo filled up the entire stadium. :) Besides, how do you top a comment like "Judges, are you watching!?" right before the earth opens up at the end of the show? :P Curt Gowdy burn in...well, OK, that may be a little harsh! Yea, only have to look at the recap to know where the gap came from in the final scoreRegiment- GE Brass-1st, GE Perc-2nd, GE Vis-2nd, Perf Brass-1st, Perf Perc-5th, Perf Vis-1st SCV - GE Brass-2nd, GE Perc-1st, GE Vis-1st, Perf Brass-2nd, Perf Perc-1st, Perf vis-2nd Lots to be said for consistency LOL that 5th in perf perc killed us dead. I've seen this thread before but just had to add...wouldn't it be interesting to see the corps in 5th this year and win drums? Ironic, huh?
