Welcome to the forums, Ryan.  :)

I concur about the flip flop between Devs and Cadets in 2000 and 2001 on the brass issue. The brass trophy sort of seems like nothing but hype anymore.

To me its between 3 lines...Star 90/91 and Cadets 01.  Those Star lines were just unbelievable and although 91 is really f'ing good, im partial to 90 personally.  And then Cadets 01 played so musically and transitioned between styles with such ease and fluidity.  Of course for pure power and intensity (while being extremely precise still) i gotta give it up for Santa Clara 98.  ####!  these things are always too hard to pick!

Top 3 hornlines of all time:

'93 Star of Indiana

'91 Star of Indiana

'92 Star of Indiana

While I did not really like the design of Star's show in '92, the hornline is quite awesome. The '92 line gets neglected a lot in the discussion of Star, mostly because of the win in '91 (along with the fabulous Mello line of that year) and the novelty and new standard of '93. '92's design seems to get in the way of that particular line being noticed as one of the best hornlines of all time.

Man, I love this discussion!

Anytime I have a bad day, I'm just gonna come back here and read about all the Kudos to the Star hornlines I was in....................

And yes..........the perfect score for Star's 92 hornline in Prelims was awesome.

But most do not know that Star put out a brass ensemble for I&E's at 1993's finals.

We also scored a perfect 100.0 there too.

Nice memories. Thanks for the nice comments!

i voted for '91 star--super fast fingers!!i can't remember '93 star at all--oops? i only caught 2 shows that year and haven't heard any of the recordings. but man. in 91 they played fast, marched fast and they still sounded dark! i could swear they were all 8 feet tall when they walked by too!!!

though '96 PR was pretty good too.

My vote goes to Regiment 96. Close second would be Star 91-93, but, I wasn't around as a drum corps fan back then to have a worthwhile opinion. As far as Cadets 2001 as a possibility... no way, as long as their mellophones were playing on F's. Hearing those band horns buried by the rest of the hornline was a heartbreak, and a shame for the once proud Cadets mellophone line. My personal opinion, of course.

As stated in other similar threads:

'93 Star: end of discussion

(Many Concord horn lines were up there with these guys, but personal issues prevent me from actually naming them ^0^ )

MAYBE '93 Star was not on the poll because it was unfair to the other hornlines... (Hey the "not quite Star '93" hornlines deserve some credit too!

:D )
