Michael Oldemeyer
I've been listening to the recordings of Ave Maria that have been posted here over and over. BTW, excellent work, Nikk. That's the first time I've listened to a college marching band without cringing. :P But seriously, that song turns my heart inside out. The hornline was playing it in December 1993, when I arrived late to camp to audition, and then we played it as a concert piece in 1996. It was beautiful then. The thought of the corps rehearsing it for an entire summer and what it could sound like in August...well...it's probably too much for words. tubawarrior
If, in fact, they are playing Biebl's "Ave Maria", I wonder how it will compare to San Francisco Renegades' version? Renegades have used it as a brass warm up for several years, and used it as the opener for their show last season. True and it was purchased from Pacific Crest who has played it as the on-field (I wonder if an earlier poster meant PC instead of Cascades, but I don't know what Cascades plays on-field). Being very familiar with this piece, I can definitely see/hear Phantom Regiment doing it, and ::sniff sniff:: if the rest of the rumors are true about the repetoire (which is now listed on corpsreps.com), do I smell championship???? SkyRyder_FMM
but there arent going to be 'big' ppl in white... so your situation doesnt apply. Huh? What 'big' ppl are you talking about? The point was the 87 Sky Ryders show is the perfect illustration that all black uniforms do in fact make you look smaller (as evidenced by a comparison to an equally numbered all white emsemble). Yep, PC has been playing an arrangement of the Biebel Ave Maria as an on-the-field and warm-up piece since around 1998. BTW, I do not think the Renegades arrangement was purchased from PC, per say. Theirs was more expanded for use as the off-the-line.
