apoch003
Being handed fresh new music that was our own (even if other corps played the same tune). Training in the newbies ("Hold that horn up!") rehearsing in that blimp hangar over the winter. Optiramas Watching the sun rise over a different part of the country while riding the bus. Fireflies Witnessing the zany quirks of our own staff. Roll stepping over a hole in the ground and not losing intonation. Entertaining the crowd. MaxwellNotes
glove and sock tan lines diesel fumes after a show eating breakfast on a curb cold showers. mosquitos during retreat, well okay I really dont miss these things, but they are all part of the great memories that I have from drum corps and I guess in some sick way I do in fact miss them. markdewine
The interval stick. Stripes on trousers. White 'bucs' under dark trousers. Company fronts w/ high leg lift. A mellow 'exit', followed by a reprise that rips your face off. Colors Presentation! DM's on the field. Snares that don't sound like table-tops. Felt mallets on multi-tenors. Rifles who CATCH their tosses...every time! Tic system. Inspections. Corps that were FULL of musicians with no formal musical training, who learned by rote, and still put out performances that were OUTSTANDING!! kansasDC
Having to put X's and O's on the music for the hornplayers who could not read music (for the youngsters, X was valve, O was rotor).
