Does the City name in your corps represent you?

Don't the Connecticut Hurricanes hold their camps in Rhode Island?

there used to be 1 camp out there because of a couple of parades they had going out there. so instead of losing the practice time . . . . they would make a camp out of it AND make money for the corps all in the same weekend. we also had a camp up in MA once because of an indoor show being held there. made more sense that way. over the course of the 10 years i was around almost everything was held in CT aside from show weekends.

Sadly, a vast majority of D1 corps have very few, if any, local ties to their so called "hometowns." Some of these corps hold their bingo games in their "hometowns." Some maintain a corps hall, park their vehicles as well as hold monthly winter camps there. Some even hold every days at the start of the season in their "homwtowns." As far as local membership, I would estimate about 75% to 90% of these corps' members come from outside of their own area. No wonder many corps make very few, if any, local off season appearances anymore. I guess this is a sign of "progress" within the activity, at least within the D1 ranks. Something today's corps must do in order to attract the best talent to be competitive. Wouldn't it be nice if we could establish another division of corps who would draw it's membership locally while traveling and competing within their own area? Perhaps taking two weeks out of the year to attend a mini tour leading to the World Championships. The way it used to be!

"Carolina Gold".

Yep.

Isn't Carolina Gold technically from Raleigh, NC though? Don't you guys usually practice in Rocky Mount?

reading buccaneers

We certainly do. Buc Field right behind the Reading Airport and the new Greater Reading Expo Center - which we're both very lucky to have. :)

Music City Legend rehearses in Madison, Tennessee, which I'm guessing to be 6-8 miles north of the city limits. But if the corps was called "Madison Legend" it would be, uh, confusing...

Actually, Stephan, Madison is just a suburb of Metropolitan Nashville. 100% of Davidson County is considered Metropolitan Nashville, so technically you could say that MCL does rehearse in the Music City!

Harrisburg Westshoremen do, even tho our name is basedon being from the West Shore of the river :P

And "back in the day" we split the difference by having drill rehearsal in the middle the of river.

OK, OK it was on an island in the middle of the river. :P

Lancers - not only do we practice in Hanover, we're still in the same American Legion Post.

Racine Kilties rehearse smack dab in the middle of Racine at Gilmore Middle School.

We were just there for Memorial Day Death camp and we finished camp with our first complete run through of the entire show on Sunday as the sun set.

Monday we all played rock star for the locals in the Racine Memorial Day parade. Marching parades in Racine with the Kilties is amazing!
