With Thunder and Blazes and the Civil War Suite, I think '80 Bridgemen warrant a place in this discussion.

But I would agree that '84 Suncoast would be my overall pick.

'02 Cadets I will have to refrain comment on.

The mention of more shows that have at least some American material is intriguing, but so far I still think most of the shows in the poll are the ones that belong there.

My personal homer feelings would dictate Bluecoats '95, and my quasi-objective opinion sticks to Bluecoats '95. Anyone remember that show?

Also, Star '92 and Cadets '95 are, IMHO, amazing shows that are the epitome of American shows.

I've got to agree with Madison 1976. That was a fun season:
  • They came in 2nd while defending their 1st DCI championship;
  • The Bicentennial was being celebrated throughout the summer;
  • Stars & Stripes forever was played both by Scouts & Bridgemen;
  • Blue Devils debuted Channel One Suite and win their 1st championship.

Plus they changed the entire show mid-season.

The S&S arrangement was real similar to the version Argonne played in the early 70's. The fanfare at the beginning was used by many corps; Bridgemen 78 come to mind. I wonder where it originally came from - maybe Tru Crawford? Anyone know?

Cadets 95, chills and tears, one of my all time favorite shows, the "Far And Away" theme at the end is so awesome, with the silent rifle drill and the color pre followed by the Iwo Jima pose. I am a sucker for WWII stuff, my dad was a vet and its just makes me all gushy to see such an emotional performance dedicated to that era.

You forget that Bluecoats 1996 was called American Celebrations and had a July 4th Tune in it "Big Day in Bristol".

'nuff said.

oh...and...a 12 tone row drum solo in 7/8 to commemorate Labor Day....not the most hummable part of the show, but it was pretty cool I thought.

Nice to see that '84 Suncoast is thought of as a patriotic show, as that was the intent when it was created.

At the time though, many people thought it was just the opposite, especially people with a military background.

They were turned off by the anti war signs etc. and thought we were glorifying draft dodgers.

Very interesting how different people come away with such opposite opinions while witnessing the same event.
