Corps dust off patriotic tunes for parades on July 4th, and what better way for DCP to celebrate the holiday than by discussing some of the patriotic shows of the past? I've listed the finalist shows over the past 20 years that convey an Americana theme. (Of course, I may have missed a couple too!) So, on this 4th of July, which of these shows do you think best conveys the true spirit of this holiday?

I'd say Bluecoats and Cadets 1995. Two of my favorite patriotic shows ever.

I've gotta go with Star 1992. While many of these shows bring a lump to my throat, the 4th is special to me because of the American musical heritage. I feel that Star, presenting re-interpretations of so many classic American themes, best captures the spirit of the 4th for me.

How can you possibly have this poll without including Suncoast Sound 1984?

I arbitrarily limited it to the past twenty years. Although that's the only other themed show that would otherwise fit the criteria, off the top of my head! Sorry!

I've got to agree with Madison 1976. That was a fun season:

  • They came in 2nd while defending their 1st DCI championship;
  • The Bicentennial was being celebrated throughout the summer;
  • Stars & Stripes forever was played both by Scouts & Bridgemen;
  • Blue Devils debuted Channel One Suite and win their 1st championship.
