drumcorpsmomx2
Well according to corps director Jeff Pearson..."Mr. Moto" will be an enigma. Hey - I tried to interview him backstage, but he was surrounded by his bodyguard (aka 'cymbals'). Gotta love the mystique! MAV In the writeup in the program for SCV, you see: In "Speed of Sight", vigorous and unrelenting motion revolves around a solo individual who moves as if in a different dimension, one who ultimately marches forward in to the realm of the future. At the end Mr Moto follows the corps up to the cymbal "V" who when he reaches them, break apart and escort him off "into the future". I agree about the mystique factor.... Jason Harrison
There was quite a bit of it in 2003. I think it's a really cool effect, and always wished they would use it more. Fits perfectly with their show concept this year imo, I really dig it. The "wandering" in 2003 made perfect sense! The show was titled Pathways. Those "wandering" members were finding their own path to the same destination. I absolutely LOVE that show!
Spirit Age-Out
The injury story is correct. I talked to some SCV staffers while I was on the road with Spirit and that is exactly what they told me. He hurt his knee and can't march that actual drill. I think it's really cool that they made a place for him in the show. It's gotta be fun for him. I mean for one his picture is going to be everywhere and people will be talking about him all summer.
Long Time Fan
Regardless of the reason for putting the person out there (and I too am glad that an injured member could march), this is very typical of the avant-garde SCV approach. I love it. It is SCV. I saw it in Atlanta and really liked how there were two separate worlds operating jointly on the field. Fit the theme perfectly. Perfect harmony in the end. Vanguard07
thank you everyone for confirming this, i was a little confused as to what his position was in the corps. Thank you for clearing this up!
chadwick
I could be wrong, but in Atlanta it looked like he re-joined the corps about mid-way through at some point and marched the rest of the show. If he is hurt, how can he do this, because as everyone has noted, the drill is very demanding and fast.
Long Time Fan
You are mistaken. He marched completely around the field. Went across the front sideline from left to right, hit the right goal line corner then angled back into the corps to go through the cymbals in the traditional "V" at the end following the corps of the field. Lance
Yeah, he only does the first set of drill. Then, he starts his journey around the field.
Spirit Age-Out
Nope. He doesn't even do the first set. His very first step takes him to the sideline and on his trip.
