Star of Indiana 2008

Recommended Posts

As much as all of us would like to see SOI back in competition I do not see it ever happening. Bill is no longer involved with the still existing group that evolved from the Star of Indiana Junior Corp and I doubt he has interest in starting over another junior corp. Also for the comment above about Bill being wrong the DCI would not be around anymore I believe that came more from Jim Mason than it did from Bill Cook. He was notorious back in the day for making comments that were more from emotion than substantiated with truth or fact.

As I started there is not a bigger group than the Alumni that would love to see a junior corp out of Indiana but if it happens it would have to come from other sources than Bill Cook or the Blast organization.

If not SOI, why not start up a new junior corps with the alum being the backbone of it (director/staff/fund raising/etc.). I don't know if lightning can strike twice and suddenly have a D1 corps, but at least by '08 there could be competitive D2 or D3 corps.

I couldn't agree more. It just seems natural for Indiana to have a Corps. Marching music is huge in Indiana. Kids would flock from all corners of the state to join. I say RIP Star, lets form a whole new organization!

It makes more sense than ever before with championships being there for a full decade. Now that I think about it, it's hard to believe that Star has been gone for 13 years!

while i agree that it would be a great thing for another IN corps, take a look at the Texas situation....junior corps in town now and a lot of the state's talent still go elsewhere. it's just hard to get moving with a start up group these days, most kids still flock to the name groups that have been around for a couple of years.

Meh. What they are doing now is far better than anything they ever didon the field, and they are performing to a much wider range of folks.

Stick to your guns, Bill!

I agree with you 100%. Besides, what they are currently doing is far more rewarding financially and otherwise and without the politics of drum corps.

I think a corps started by alum (or similar) would have more a draw.

Well. if Cook gets booted from his casino deal, he's going to have a lot more free time on his hands.

Seriously tho'. Can we just move this thread to Historical?

Agreed...it's historic and that's it. Bill Cook would bring back so...people could boo his corps kids again? I don't think so. People have short memories.
