elphaba01
Selections from Maynard Ferguson - Pagliacci, * Carnival (from La Fiesta Mexicana), * Mac Arthur ParkSounds like a Caballero show, and BTW the Alumni Corps is playing two of the numbers this year. M F Jazz may he RIP "Sounds like one for the Bellbottoms": Yep. Either one of the Cab's corps could use "Maynard Tributes" for 2007. The Alumni already have MacArthur Park & Paglaicci in their rep. The music was just MADE for Ponzo & the Amigos.... Elphaba WWW Edited August 25, 2006 by elphaba01
GCDG
With the great wealth of music that Maynard has produced, the entire DCA could do a tribute and no two Corps would have to play the same tunes. There is enough of a variety of style to cover all the different Corps. RIP MF
Skylinersop16
Hey Joe The Hawthorne Caballeros did Maynard's Conquistador in 1979 my 1st year in the corps. We also did his arrangement of La Fiesta. I am sure we did a lot more of his work but I can't remember at this moment. Cabs also played the beginning of it in 1995 Sky has done Carnival several times
CozyChopsCom
I'd be in Heaven to do a Maynard show!
brassomaniac
add 1993 Capitol Brass "Maynard and Buddy Tour" "Everybody Loves the Blues" and "Mira, Mira" as bookends to Buddy Rich's "Nutville" and "Something" Who was your featured soprano soloist that year? That guy was awesome!Fran Scott Thompson! He is a HUGE Maynard disciple and put the study to good use - he plays even higher now than he did in the CBE days! Plays on a lot of bands in the Albany area now. He's been with me at Brass-O-Mania! for 12 years and will likely play some gigs with the new Capital Brass! - so dc fans may hear from him again. It's REALLY nice that someone remembers our corps. THANKS FOR THAT! Edited August 25, 2006 by brassomaniac

geneseo_bari_87
No one has ever done Maynard's Conquistador? I'm surprised. I used to have it on a single. Early 60's, I think. 86 Blue Devils did the intro part of Maynard's Conquistador. 84 BD also did Maynard's La Fiesta, let's not forget.
