tubawarrior
straight from DCI: From a Capital Regiment press release: The Board of Trustees of the Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps has decided not to field a competitive corps for the 2007 Drum Corps International Summer Music Games Tour. Since the end of the 2006 summer tour, the board has had several discussions among its members as well as with others in the drum corps community. During last summer’s tour, and since, the corps faced several challenges that need to be addressed. Events during that tour have caused the organization to step back and re-evaluate all operations, from fundraising to the day-to-day operations. The organization’s goal is the same as it has always been: to provide its members with the best possible drum corps experience. Over the next year, Capital Regiment will take necessary steps to ensure its return to active status in 2008. Executive Director Rick Bays said: “I’m excited about the opportunity we have to reorganize to ensure the longevity of the corps.” Vice president and treasurer Greg Smith reiterated, “This is definitely the right thing for us to do at this time. While it was an extremely difficult decision, we believe our alumni, volunteers, and the entire drum corps community will support our decision to step back and regroup for our return in 2008.” Capital Regiment, even though not performing, will still sponsor Artistry in Motion, one of the events on the 2007 DCI Summer Music Games Tour. www.capitalregiment.org. Liam
Thanks for the post from DCI so we know what we're talking about here (shocking !!!! :P ) Anyway, sad to see this happen, but at the same time pleased that they recognize the issues and are hopefully doing what they need to do to ensure long-tem stability. One year off is sad. Permanently folding is devastating. Here's hoping they return after a year, a la Troopers, stronger and ready to compete. CR -- I'll miss you and await your return (bring a souvie truck to Pasadena and I'll even contribute a few bucks and wear a t-shirt in support !!!!) Matt_S
Sad to see, but if it makes the corps stronger then it will be for the best. I look forward to seeing them return in 2008!
