Brief explanation of the films, in case you didn't see any of them:

1. Mr. Holland teaches high school band and orchestra in his 30 year career.

2. Trials and tribulations of a collegiate drumline and it's brash new member.

3. Mozart's life, as told by Antonio Salieri

4. Beethoven's goes deaf and get's p***ed off at everyone.

5. Teen sex comedy set at what would be Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan.

6. Whoopy Goldberg teaches nuns and then catholic school kids to sing.

7. British brass band members worries about their jobs at the coal mine.

8. Meryl Streep teaches poor kids in Harlem to play violin.

9. Cuba Gooding, Jr. pretends to be a gospel choir director.

10. Didn't see it, but it's french and it's supposed to be really good.

11. Young Mickey Rooney acts like a dork and leads his jazz band at a contest.

12. Denzell Washington and Wesley Snipes do a GREAT job fingerfaking as a trumpet player and sax player in this Spike Lee joint.

13. Jimmy Stewart potrays bandleader Glenn Miller.

Those are the only ones I could think of.

Not ashamed to admit it, I cried the first time I saw Mr. Holland's Opus.

Amadeus, followed by Mo' Better Blues.

I'm glad someone else recognizes Mo' Betta Blues! If you haven't seen it, make sure you do, especially if you're a trumpet or sax player. I'm a trumpet player, and when I saw it I could have sworn that Denzell was actually playing!!! My cousin who's a sax player said Wesley Snipes' fingerfaking was dead on also. Plus the music is good.

Where is the Blues Brothers?! That gets my vote.

I didn't wanna put any movies on the poll that dealt with pop music, although this one is borderline pop, and I did seriously including it in the poll (if for nothing else but the horn section).

This Is Spinal Tap

:worthy:

See above, although I didn't consider including this on the poll at all.

Brassed off.....very very funny. Gotta love British humor.

High honors to "Glenn Miller" story and "Hollands Opus". Funny story about Opus: in the theather a bunch of music/corps/band teachers went to see the movie together. When Mr. Holland is at the piano with the cute redhead one of the teachers shouts "don't do it" (refering to kissing her), kinda funny but also creepy as all the guys started laughing in that "I know how he feels" kind of way.
