PR_ducky
Thanks - Did SCV win drums in 89 though? yes they did, by .1 in 89 there were only 6 judges, 3 in the box, 3 on the field. If you won a caption in the box it was a GE caption, if you won a caption on the field it was a performance caption. Since SCV won perc perf they won drums. also GE Perc and GE Visual Regiment won Brass and Visual perf, and GE Brass each corps finished second in the caption they did not win, by either .1 or .2, with the exception of Perc Perf where Regiment finished 5th, That was the difference that gave SCV the title. What a great year that was all around. the whole top 12 was awesome. In my opinion, one of the best years ever for drum corps.
MJN
I agree. Overall for the whole top 12, I think it is the best year to listen to. Thinking back, SCV was great (even though 88 was better), PR=awesome, Cavaliers on their way to the top, BD great jazz show, Garfield - one of the most intense shows ever- my favorite Cadet show. Probably the best 11-12 shows with VK and Crossmen.
CrossmenAlumni
Santa Clara scored a perfect 30 in GE in 1975, when GE brass, GE Drums, and GE Marching were each based on a 10 point system Actually, there were SEVEN perfect General Effect caption scores given out at the 1975 DCI Finals. Madison, SCV, and 27th Lancers all got a perfect 10 in GE M&M. Madison and SCV both got perfect 10's in GE Percussion. And SCV and 27th both got perfect 10's in GE Brass. Insanity. Also, SCV and 2-7 had perfect 10s in GE M&M (Scouts had a 9.7). You're correct about GE percussion.

Maybe they got the captions wrong. http://www.fromthepressbox.com/19750816div1finals.htm
Keith Laubhan
I don't think "maximum scores" are always indicative of poor numbers management, per se, but sometimes of unexpected performance levels. If one corps after another brings their personal A games, and tops the competition before them, sometimes a judge will have no choice but to hit that ceiling. That doesn't necessarily mean that they made a mistake with their numbers, just that the situation was atypical.

You know those judges would no longer be judging if they did that today.
Slow Adam
A few drops do not make or break a colorguard. What's more important than the drop is the recovery. That line of thinking has always boggled me. Don't make the mistake and recovery isn't necessary.
kansasDC
If I remember right, the Muchachos got a perfect score in percussion execution at the 1975 CYO Nationals.
