Hard to choose without knowing the genre and style.

Though I voted for Crown, it's a tie between them and Phantom for me. Afterwards comes Cavaliers for me.

It really depends on the time frame you're considering. But historically BD, Vanguard, Phantom, and Star have had good hornlines. Personally I have always liked Vanguard and Phantom since they have tended towards a greater presence in the lower voices. But there's many good hornlines out there, some of which don't get to do finals. And some of which don't do the DCA or DCI thing.

2006:

DCI-Phantom

DCA-Bush

In 2006 - Phantom, followed by Crown and BD.

Suncoast Sound deserves mention. '86 was their best hornline, but it didn't portray the same unique "pure" open sound as did 83-85. But all 4 of these years were great lines. The sound was just more distinctive in 83-85.

BD, Spirit, Star, SCV, Phantom, Madison, and Cavies have all had great sounding lines at various times - some more than others (obviously).

"golly Mr. Peabody what about the great Argonne Rebel lines of 71-73?". Let's not forget Suncoast Sound either.
