Hottest Show?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I just wanted to know any corps members memory of the hottest show they played in... Have you ever performed under 100+ degree weather? Has anyone ever suffered from heat exhaustion during a show because it was too hot? I can't imagine playing in that attire in such heat! I was in my high school marching band and playing in the Fall in the Bay Area (the hottest time of the year) was way hard enough and those temps never even breached 95 Degrees!

Also, while I am at it.. for anyone out there.. what is the hottest show you've seen? Not literally, figuratively... Perhaps the sexiest show.

For me, it HAS TO BE Phantom's Faust. Tehre was one shirtless dude in there who was very yum... I mean very good looking with his shirt off! ^0^

::cue dcp collectively shouting "phantom '91" and then repeatedly asking nikk to tell stories from rehearsals that year for whatever reason::

the worst is when youre in halves while warming up and already sweating....you know theres nothing you can do but accept that its only going to get worse....

oh and regardless of what's posted in this thread, my metaphorical hat goes off to corps that perform early. with only a few exceptions, i hope people whove marched corps like bd can accept that however hot it was when they went on, it was probably a lot hotter a few hours earlier when the sun was at its worst.

I don't remember the year, but it was probably sometime in the early-90s. Spirit of Atlanta held their home show that year at Decatur High School. The stadium had no lights, so it was an afternoon show. In the deep south. In the heart of summer.

First on was a Canadian corps, which obviously wasn't used to the heat. About a dozen or so members fell out during the show from the heat.

The Decatur police stopped the show after that, and only after a long, heated (no pun intended) discussion, finally agreed to let the show continue, but only if the remaining corps performed in shorts and t-shirts.

I was there- the first corps was Phoenix from Japan, and yes, bodies were falling everywhere! Then Colts, then the show was cancelled. it was in 1987, but the show doesn't show up on corpsreps.

It was real dang hot.

I suppose I should not mention what happened to Capital Regiment this past summer in

06'. I know for a fact that that (heh) was 110+ degree weather in Pittsburg, Kansas.

Supposedly, I heard it got pretty hot in the stadium during the show, actual audience

members passed out and had to be escorted out.

Rumor is (pure rumor) that it got 131 inside the stadium. I think it could have been that hot

because of the terf field. It's almost like carpet and it does not help with the heat.

But, what do I know...???

The Pittsburg, KS show was horrible. I remember at our housing site we were surrounded by lakes and it was 117 degrees. The air was saturated with so much water that it got foggy. No full run during that day for us. Then the show wasn't that much better. Its days like those that made us despise Kansas.

Birmingham ... 1989 ..... 120 ish at field level during prelims.

Were we at that show Dan? Or are you simply pointing out that

it was that hot at that show? 'Cause I don't remember us going that far south. :)

The hottest show I remember being in though was Oklahoma City 1990.

It was 118 on the astro-turf!

Good point because I remember some of our shows early in the season of 2000 (Like Clifton, NJ and Boston, MA) where we had to perform in the middle of the day. It was so hot. I HATED IT. So I can definitely appreciate some of the other corps who had to perform really early in the day.

Not sure what the temp at show time was, but we rehearsed in the Rice Bowl (Houston, Texas) in '96 and '97, even doing a clinic and the field temp (old school astroturf) was right at 130 at field level. Needless to say, we would run a segement then get water and repeat that process all afternoon.
