jjeffeory
Okay, most of today's lines are putting out some great tones and display superior musicality. Since there are many who know about those, I thought I'd add some from the past. Star 1990. Wow, one of the most musical books out there. Star 1992. Listen to the book. Listen to the construction. Listen to how well the percussion voices overlay with the brass voices. Blue Devils 1988. A book that had it all.
Hrothgar15
I also thought Cavaliers 1975 fielded a very, very good hornline of utmost tone quality and musicality. MJN
Also, don't you play mello? I'm almost positive he now plays sop. - oops -trumpet with Scouts.
MelloHorn13
I beg to differ about Crown. Also, don't you play mello? Also note that we're talking about above High-C, which is what the original post was talking about. The King definitely feels a lot different in that register than other horns I've used. Of course, one works past that, but it's still a fact. I tend not to care or notice when listening to other King lines. Who in Div. 1 uses Kings anyway? They had a good balanced brass sound in 2000. Definitely some good full ensemble moments, as were the features. Nope I march Trumpet. Corps that use King: Blue Knights - not sure if they still do Phantom Crown - switched to Yamaha Southwind Blue Stars - not sure if they still do Magic

Academia aside, RCM from that show was pretty powerful. I'll even ignore the mellophones sustaining a note that was a 1/4-step sharp for about 20 counts, that essence of hanging it all out there that the lower echelon corps (which Cavies were then, and corps even lower, out of finals) is definitely one thing I like about the corps from that era. Basically, I'll ignore bad sounds if you perform the hell out of it. I think pretty much anyone is like that. See, I'm not complete snob legacy fans :P Nope I march Trumpet. Oh, sorry about that then. I just wasn't sure, you know with the name and all. Edited May 21, 2007 by Einstein On The Beach

Einstein On The Beach
What's wrong with the '75 Cavies? Possibly the blatant disgusting sounds? I already explained in my prior post.
