NYSkyliner
One year with Indiana University of PA with the team formerly known as the Indians. Team now known as Crimson Hawks cuz the NCAA made us change the name. :sshh: Funny, my undergraduate alma mater, Montclair State University, where known as the "Indians" as well, and due to political correctness they also changed their names to the Red (as opposed to Crimson) Hawks. In my final 2 years we had a "Pep Rally" band sponsored by the Athletic Department with yours truly as the conductor. We didn't perform on the field, just sat in the stands and played numbers like "On Wisconsin" and "Hail Pennsylvania", the Michigan fight song, Notre Dame's fight song, things like that. Red was a better choice Mike. "Crimson Hawk" is (was?) also the name of a on-line semi-pornographic super hero. College took about 18 months to pick a new name and no one thought to Google the new name "just in case". Few days after the new name was announced someone found the website and the crap hit the fan. Someone proposed the new nickname should be the "Jumping Jimmys" after home town boy Jimmy Stewart. Still that was better than the "Fighting Squirrels" after all the bushy tailed vermin in the one really green section of campus.
usmpiano
University of Southern Mississippi - "The Pride of Mississippi" At the time I was there, it was great band of about 300. Went into Tallahassee and blew down Florida State.
gmencontra
University of Tennessee "Pride of the Southland Marching Band". Ever heard of "Rocky Top"? We played it a lot. I believe that CV had atleast 5 people in one season that marched at UT... at some point or another. DMCK
Lol it's still big into corps, or was at least. A lot of Crossmen and Cadets were coming out of there. :) And after all, how drum corpsish can you get with 200+ members? lol We figured it out. :) The "Spanish" show in 96 and "Perilous Skies" in 97 were at the height of that movement. I guess the woodwinds wanted to play more bando stuff. Who knows.
