The alternative? You mean there has to be one? I thought what I was doing was fighting to have my voice to be heard, as a paying fan/alumni . I still pay to go to shows and as long as I'm paying I believe I have right in saying what I want. There are usually just about three corps who keep pulling me back to stay, you can figure out who they are...or not.

I think that those who oppose us who oppose-don't get that, or maybe they think all our fighting is in vain? But maybe, just maybe one day somebody will wake up and read and see what's going on and think, "You know they might be on to something"...maybe, one day when the stadiums are more empty with fans who oppose and maybe when people stop spending money on something they don't like then they will start listening to our words...maybe...just maybe... :)

What's the alternative? To stay and complain about it?

I don't mean to sound flip about this. I recognize the passion many bring to the discussion. What's not so clear is the purpose for which they invest the energy.

Well, I can't speak for everyone, but in my case, I don't come here just to spout off about my personal preferences. My main motivation in these discussions stems from my desire to see a wonderful activity maintain it's health (or survival, in more dramatic cases).

And to that end, I usually don't complain without offering solutions or alternatives.

Dear Moderator,

This has drifted (for many pages) so far from the original topic and has turned into another of the hundreds of threads that get hijacked down the anti-amps, anti-vocals, hate GH, why do things have to change, etc. route.

Please close this thread as there are many more appropriate threads under which those things are and can be discussed.

Yeah, good idea, althoug as the author of the original thread, I would instead suggest we tighten it up a bit (read: eliminate some of the meandering posts, mine included :P ) and move back towards discussing the reality series, the four judge panel, etc.

I think we got off track a little...got myself to blame for that as much as anyone. :)

So misleading.

They stole THEIR OWN model which they were allowed to explore in other arenas (the various indoor and band circuits) who had less restrictions. People might not like that, and that's fine, but let's not pretend that the leaders in the those other circuits weren't the same people who were leading DCI to the forefront of the marching arts at the time.

i play jazz. i play classical. i play drum corps.

i dont walk into the symphony hall and whip out flamdrags at 180. i dont walk into the jazz club and whip out concert buzz rolls.

people can cross arenas and keep things distinctively seperate.

Actually the scale doesn't really matter...Jeff was saying how it was a shame people were so black and whote on the issue. You can't get more black and white than turning your back and walking away.

yeah why pay to see what you hate in the fall for free.

They can care all they want, but caring doesnt always create action... amps got passed, a repeal hasnt... what does that tell ya?

EDIT: not meant to be taken in a sarcastic or oppositional tone... it was just an observation.

it means those that said they would fight caved and realized like Feidler said...to win you have to do it.

Jeff,

TWO THINGS:

1. it's Fiedler...

2. I never said "...to win you have to do it." I believe I said something about "...competing with one hand tied behind my back..." in reference to a whole slew of items, of which amplification was one of them. Let's not take it too far out of context.

I'll happily and readily admit that I was wrong about the "coming" of Bb instruments - it wasn't the end of the world, it was probably the best thing to impact drum corps in a long time and I wish that I and my organization had seen that 10-15 years earlier, as I believe it would have had as a dramatic impact then as it has in recent years. We all wasted a lot of time and money adding valves and choruses of instruments over the years.

Fortunately or unfortunately (I'm giving everyone a choice!), I've learned to pick and choose my battles over the years.

Oh, feel free to not attend shows...just commenting on the 'black and white' comment YOU made. Seems as if you are pretty black and white about it yourself, which is OK.
