madalumni
BigBadMadMan emerging from hibernation. Oh, got it. I did not read his post. I probably should do likewise and hibernate more from here....but it's just too entertaining sometimes! By the way, does anyone happen to know how many "Pictures" there are in the original "Pictures at an Exhibition"? (I'm too lazy to look on google.) The reason I'm askinging is that I wonder if that's how many pieces the Scouts are doing for the 2012 show. Maybe each "Picture" or "Scene" will mix the Mussorgski originals with Madison favorites from the past. Roark1
I think there are 10 pieces named for pictures, as well as the promenades and an interlude.

According to the Wikpedia (so take it for what it is worth), there are 10 movements that cover 11 pictures, plus the rest that you note. Hence the title "Reframed". According to a source I've been in contact with from within the organization, each movement if this show has a "Madison Favorite" that is "framed" by a movement from pictures. I think it's only 3 or 4 movements though. Not the full amount of movments within Mussorgski's work as you were speculating. But yes, unless the person I've talked to is just messing with my head (and that's possible)...the show is Madison Trademark music mixed with movements from Pictures. We shall see for sure in just a few months. Edited February 29, 2012 by stevedb1975

SFZFAN
CHOPCHOP ?? I really hope not. It would be nice to hear more than a few bars if they're going to play any of their classics.

Well, according to an earlier poster who is a current member, Mr. Smith has written a very musical and exciting book for the Scouts, so I doubt it will be "choppy".
