mad_scotty Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Has the drum corps activity finally jumped the shark? OR What drum corps do you feel has jumped the shark? every single drum corps has, at one point or another, jumped the shark. some more than once. personally, as much as i loathe some of the ideas that they come up with, and wish certain corps would discard the bad ones more quickly, i'm really glad that they are all constantly risking absurdity. whether its the cadets going asymmetrical, or the blue devils doing a rock show (for those of you who still think pinball wizard isn't "jazz") or madison putting a pinwheel into a company front move on the field 20 years after it went out of style or phantom wearing black or scv playing debussy or crown dressing their guard as little horsies and galloping them around in circles i like it. i even liked it when spirit did petrushka and interstellar suite, porn pants and all! DCIHasBeen Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Jumping the shark is passe ... Nuking the Fridge is where it's at these days ... and I can think of at least one corps that did that in 2008. Quote
perc2100 Posted August 29, 2008 Posted August 29, 2008 Jumping the shark is passe ... Nuking the Fridge is where it's at these days ... Ha! I heard that quote a month or two ago, and thought it was brilliant!! Not only is it a hip phrase, but it's also indicative that the phrase 'jumping the shark' has indeed jumped the shark Quote

"Nuking the Fridge" is SO three months ago. Now the term is "Pulling a Lynn Johnston." Lynn, the creator of the comic strip, "For Better or Worse," is keeping the strip alive even though she is no longer the sole artist. And after this coming Sunday, all new strip development will end, and yet the strip will live on, recycling strips from up to 28 years ago and giving them new art and text. Yes, I for one feel "Nuking the fridge" is already passé and has commenced "Pulling a Lynn Johnston." Quote

To me, "Pulling a Lynn Johnston" is just a current replacement for "Pulling a Tom Clancy". ...but I (we) digress... Didn't last year's "This I Believe" come pretty close to nuking the fridge? Quote
