fifer Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 When I received the last issue of Boston's newsletter, I noticed that they are expanding their hornline to 80 this year. Now an article out of the Colts camp says their hornline is growing this year as well. So, please share with us all if you know the planned size and breakdown of the hornline for any corps this year. Thanks! Quote
ContraRich77 Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 The more 16 member tuba/contralines, the better!!!!!!!!!! Quote
madalumni Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Madison will have 84 horns. The breakdown will be: 24 Trumpets 16 Mellos 16 Baritones 8 Euphs 20 Tubas They had 17 Tubas at last camp and are looking for 3 more individuals to hit that goal of 20. That is going to be one powerful Brass sound (especially Low Brass) coming from the Scouts and I can't wait to blown away by them and need my fillings replaced! Quote

Thanks! Unless we know the size and quality of the Guard, one could have 90 brass and it won't really mean that much. If a Corps wants to score well within it's mix of Corps that it will compete with in scores and placements, it will be the size and quality of their Guard( not their Brass or Percussion ) that will give them an edge within that group of Corps. That should be interesting, my first thought is that it might be an odd balance. But hopefully it works for them Quote

That's right, I forgot. It is no longer called DCI, it is now called WGI - summer edition!!! I suppose if you can't march and can't play, everything will be just fine as long as the guard is good. And Madison...... OMG!! Can't wait! Edited February 12, 2010 by PRSINKSPIRIT Quote

JerseyDCyanks Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 My first thought when they started expanding the corps size it was to get more brass on the field for a couple reasons.. 1 that the Bb isnt producing the same amount of sound as the G horns used to. And also it gives the corp the ability to have players take more breathes during the show and still produce a large amount of sound with the velocity of some drills today. Quote
John Murray Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Madison: 24 Baris/Euphs 20 Contras -blink- Quote
