thebrassshop Posted March 13, 2010 Posted March 13, 2010 I had the opportunity today Sat the 13th to see whats up at Pioneer. I was Pleasantly surprised at the Show they are doing musically. The Drum line ( I think is full) it appeared that way and they are cranking. The Brass with some missing folks was very strong musically, the charts are awsome, with the visual package and the emotional musical portion this should be a very good year for Pioneer. Anybody brass or perc or CG looking for a good experience, it is there Yes they have a few spots but not many. just my opinion Paul Collins The Brass Shop Quote

Shamrocker Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Very cool! I'm so excited to see Pio this year! Quote
CitBos Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Glad to hear Pioneer is doing so well right now. Hopefully they'll place very good this year. Quote
Kansan Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 (edited) I saw them last Summer and was pleased with the improvements they have made. They just need numbers to really bring it. Maybe an audition Camp in the Kanas City area could boost their numbers in the future. Edited March 15, 2010 by Kansan Quote
Old School Contra Guy Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Can't wait to see them and everybody else in KC in July. (hey Jeff, heard anything about where the KC show will be held ?) Quote

They sounded GREAT! They played through their whole show. The music they are playing this year is really good, and they’re playing it very well. Nice job Donny! It seems to me they are well ahead of last year at this time. Look for a different Pioneer in 2010, from music, to uniform changes, and some interesting visuals. From what I seen and heard yesterday I see Semi’s in their future. As Paul said there are a few openings still in the hornline, it doesn’t look to be many. Drums look full though I’m not sure either. They still need some guard members, although winter guard is not over yet. Anyone looking to march this season should really contact them. I think Pioneer is going to do very well this season! Quote
Donny Drum Corps Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Good Stuff...thanks you guys. Although the final decison has not been quite made, we are hoping to write drill for either 52 or 56 brass at the moment. The kids really seem to enjoy the show, which is always a huge plus. The good news is that there more vets returning this year than previous years. And as I prefer telling the truth on here, we can still use a few solid brass players in the lower end, especially baritones. We are of course waiting for our South African students, possibly some other foreign students that are showing considerable interest as well. As previously mentioned, this year could be an exciting as we are ahead of previous year's schedule in terms of having the initial version of the show complete musically and conceptually have some great input as well. We are also excited to have "consultant type" visits coming up very soon with Michael Cesario concerning colors, uniforms and flag design and other visual concept related information. We also have retained our friend Allan Murray to come to our next camp and assist us with ideas for the music production. We have also retained the very talented Matt Winans (Flanagan HS, Boston Crusaders, many upstate NY color guards) to write the color guard work as well. Immediate needs are in the color guard as it is difficult to determine until WGI is over where we stand with numbers, but I will say that if you guard people are interested in performing this summer in World Class, we may have some openings available presently. So yeah...these is some positive energy in Milwaukee and I am quite happy about that. Thanks for your kind words guys! Donny Allen-Pioneer Program Coordinator Brass Arranger Brass Caption Head Quote
MisterA Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I would love to see them performing to the level they did in the mid to late 90's. They had some amazing shows, and I enjoyed them the most those years. I still really enjoy their shows every year, but really wish they had the performance level of their 90's shows. Good luck Pioneer. Quote
