  1. Could it be possible that the members who were sent pictures of Rochester Crusaders just wrote "Crusaders" on the form?
  2. I just now watched the tribute......it is the one thing on here that not only shows the horrors of the day, but also the coming together of the American people in spite of our differences. Congressmen and Senators that night sang "God Bless America" on the Capitol steps. They were united and we all took their lead. The days that followed were difficult for all of us. We didn't know if something else was going to happen...or where. I was a civilian working for the Army at the time. Seeing everyone's faces when the second plane hit was a show of shock, sadness. Some of us might have or did know people, especially in the Pentagon...but no names on the casualty list were familiar. Still though, those in the Pentagon were our comrades and seeing so many taken out that day was devastating. HQ sent us home that day, around noon. We stayed closed for a day or maybe two, I can't remember. When we did come back, we were told we had to have someone there 24/7 until further notice. All doors had to be locked at all times, we had to be careful with phone calls and emails....security was essential, with no excuses. I was the security person then for the shop. About the only thing I didn't do according to the regs was close down the street in front of us. There were businesses there, I just felt that we couldn't let them to lose business by closing the street. I didn't get in trouble for it either. There are still unknowns today.....have we forgotten....have we become complacent......how much should we remember...there are still debates about whether or not to show footage from that day. Even in class today, the instructor said it might be good to not remember it...that somehow that would help bring about peace. (The class is Christian Ethics--the instructor is a nun)...I told the whole class no....this has to be remembered, just as the Alamo was remembered and Pearl Harbor is remembered. Remembering takes away complacency. But.....enough of that....probably shouldn't get too political. We lost a lot of people...innocent people...people in the WTC and the Pentagon who were just doing their jobs, people on the planes just traveling somewhere for whatever reason. The bad part is that it could very well happen again....but we all should be praying that it doesn't.
  3. Jeff.....I can't even begin to imagine what you and your dad are going through right now....this is terrible! :( You all are in my prayers and thoughts.....
  4. On handicapped parking----many places have it only because it's the law. Most have the minimum required for their parking lot and no more. That was a big problem on the MATC campus when I was on the ADA compliance board. I was always telling them of the abuses I saw or how the spaces were all taken. Their response? We have as many as we need according to the law...and/or.....our records show there aren't as many handicap students as there are parking spots for them. (You have to tell the school, with proof, that you have some sort of disability that requires accommodating) Heck.....during the winter here, when parking lots get plowed, the snow is piled up in handicapped spots...even where I attend that good and caring and sympathetic catholic college I go to. Of course, if you ask about it, you get the usual lecture about we have the minimum required and that there is still room for you to park in the ones with the snow piles (despite that four feet of your car is sticking out in traffic). I wish those people would get out of their offices sometime and actually look at the situation. But, that's another story.
  5. I wasn't there but even if the tales of problems with the handicapped, their parking, etc are even half true, this is an area that DCA needs to work on. Handicap access is just that...giving us access that is on par with what the non-handicapped have.....that means parking, seating, and being able to get from point A to point B without having to go via point X. This means that if the lot that DCA made buses only took away handicap parking spots, then DCA was in the wrong. There is a reason that the special parking for us exists and that there is no good reason for taking it away just so the buses can be close so the corps members don't have to walk too far. The thing with that is this---most places will only provide the minimum number of handicap parking spots required by law and no more. Many times that is inadequate. Our parking is already scarce no matter where it is....making it even more scarce borders on illegal. Side note.....Just so anyone bringing up me having had handicap plates on my car while I was marching---yes I did....I marched at least two years more than I should have...I'd probably be in a little better shape today if I hadn't. So I'm paying for that and will always and it's on me only for being stupid....which is why I feel better being around people who didn't know the "before" me. But that's another story. The point is that handicap parking and accessibility are something, by law, not to be tampered with or taken away.
  6. I saw the Govie's equipment truck around 5:50 pm today heading west on the Madison Beltline. I was thinking...they must know a shortcut between here and St. Peter that the rest of us don't know....or maybe even some sort of vortex!
  7. I didn't know execpc still existed! From 1971: All these cities are in Michigan... This was the first ever UP tour....it was Phantom, Guardsmen, Long Island Kingsmen, Thunderbolts and the some of the UP corps. Anyway...from 1972 Thunderbolts' schedule: We were in that show...this is where the Ironwood Blue Knights played themselves off the field with "Latina." Blue Stars were laughing their butts off when they heard their arrangement! This was also where I passed a Blue Star guy and said "good show" to which he replied "f you!" At state solo/ensemble in Oshkosh in 73, we got to see Cedarburg HS's stage band. The trumpet section were all lead sops from Thunderbolts. Those guys were wailing!! And now, we return to 1976..............
  8. I know they came back after the merger that produced Pioneer, but didn't think it was that early Our last season was 1973.
  9. I was at the show in Manitowac that year.....when Kilties got beat by General Butler Vagabonds. Blue Star beating them was pretty much normal in the 70s. Went to the Cavies show in Park Ridge....got to see Guardsmen's entire show then watch Blue Stars get blown all over the field by the near by tornado, much like what happened to Niesi Ambassadors in 1971 at the Wisconsin State Fair show.
  10. From the Rochester Rhino's website Rhino website Having been on an ADA compliance board---this is good but it's not enough. For example, it should have listed exactly where the handicapped seating is both here and on the stadium seating chart. Same with the parking. I would expect that the majority of the handicap parking is in P2 and P7. P1, P3 and P4. I'm sure that there are also spaces in the lots a few blocks away, but with the distance from the stadium, you might as well park in Syracuse. Parking map Since the ADA became law in 1990, most places are doing excellent work in setting up handicap accommodations, but many are still struggling to meet the requirements or just don't care to. PAETEC Park looks like they're trying. So anyone in this situation, I would just call the ADA coordinator for the stadium.
  11. I know 10 from Kilties I have no idea how many have passed from Nothernaires who were there when I was. I know one passed from diabetes complications, another was murdered by her husband, who then killed himself and two committed suicide.
  12. Yeah but the NFC North only has teams from WI, MI, MN and IL....so there's the model! :P
  13. Thanks Mike for asking and thank you John for putting it on the site.
  14. Which is all well and good if your feet and legs work as they're suppose to.
  15. I've always found that line funny.....any team who has recently won the World Series or the Super Bowl or whatever always includes the "we overcame a lot of adversity" phrase into their post game comments. Anyway, congrats to MCL and Cru....and Sun and Buc's of course!
  16. Here is the real reason.... One or more of the finals judges freaked out when Renegades came on because one or more of those judging had bad experiences with zombies during their childhood and docking them down a few notches was their revenge. Sounds more plausible than a region penalty.....
  17. Or perhaps it was an accurate representation of the differences in quality between the Hurricanes and Renegades??
  18. Like anyone would need to sabotage you to win I&E Kemo! :P :P Congrats Buzzard...you done good! ^OO^
  19. A long long long time ago--1970 I think--, Drum Corps News released an album of bits and pieces of many corps. Scout House was on it, playing Matilda....that glock on the record had to have been right by the sideline in front of the mike! Talk about load with tons of overtones!
  20. Thanks to those in the pressbox..... ^OO^ I just have one burning and haunting question though---why does John D have an avatar of Millard Fillmore??
  21. All this who has the better football team....Bills or Titans...Titans or Bills........that's like arguing who has the better country, North Korea or Armenia. The answer--neither! They both suck! Look at the Bills......had to resort to hiring a fired head coach from the freakin BEARS when Mularkey ran away from Buffalo in horror after just a year! Now one day when the Bills or Titans...or any other NFL team for that matter who even comes close to the Packers in the number of NFL World Championships (for those who are unfamiliar with teams who have actually won something, that would twelve titles)........I may listen to this hilarity coming from two pretenders. And Dallas?? The best pro football team Texas ever had was SMU.
