Renegades to Europe in 2013
FrankBeMe replied to BetoSuave's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Why does anyone need to know why Ohio State and Penn State are on probation? Why does anyone need to know why SMU got the death penalty? Why does anyone need to know why USC was probation last year? Why was Oklahoma on probation back in the 70s? Why does anyone need to know why the Saints were dealt with this year? Answer--so people will think twice about attempting the same stunts that got the others in trouble. -
Sex offenders being involved with drum corps
FrankBeMe replied to Jeff Ream's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
Let me put it this way. The situation that is the basis of this thread is very very very familiar to me as I was there at the start of it in 1993 and 1994 and it really needs to be taken up by the powers that be. If DCA is serious about wanting to clean up the culture, dealing with this situation would be a good place to start. -

Why is it amazing? Have you ever seen the Marine's Silent Drill Team? Or is it because no one else on the field tonight can do it so why should they be any different? -

Music in Motion is the name of their show every year. Their perfection is never a surprise, it's a given. -

Just a comment--Where did this "hater" thing come from? Just because someone doesn't like a certain corps or show they are immediately branded a hater? Don't like a certain corps--you're a hater. Don't have the politically correct view of any issue--you're a hater. I see this coming from teens and 20 somethings....seriously--it's juvenile. Of course now I'll be labeled a hater of people who call others haters. So be it. Anyway--I only saw videos throughout the summer--Bucs, Empire, Hurcs, Cabs and Kilties. I did like Empire, although when they first announced they were doing Michael Jackson I said "NOOOOOOOOOOOOO." Bucs I thought were quite good, although I didn't get the connection between Swan Lake and Mombo. Cabs--was more subtle--and I like the gradual build up "rumps" compared the suddenly fast "rumps." Hurcs I liked too. Kilties--being an alum--I didn't think that this show would go anywhere, comparing it to Kiltie shows past, I felt this year's was least likely to succeed. But they made finals with it so congrats to them, I'm happy for the ones I know who are still there. I'll probably get the DVD's again this year.

DCI Tournament of Champions Format
FrankBeMe replied to Roundtable Editor's topic in DCI Roundtable Project
Tournament of Champions implies those involved are or have been champions. How then can the Bluecoats be part of this when they've never won a championship? -
The Cavaliers 2011 Show
FrankBeMe replied to Hook'emCavies's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
All that's been announced is a show title. No details. No music. Despite that very limited info, people are droolin all over themselves in excitement over something totally unknown. Except a show title. Seriously people?? -
I just found out while reading the website of the paper in Marinette. Very sad. He did so much for the activity.

Drum Corps World Ceases Print Version
FrankBeMe replied to cabalumnidrummer's topic in DCA - All-Age Corps Discussions
The print business is pretty bad in Madison....the Capital Times newspaper, the liberal rag of the city, wasn't selling anymore, which what would be really unexpected around here, they went to a weekly free insert in the Wisconsin State Journal...not exactly a right wing paper, but much more to the right of the CT. It's happening everywhere. Heck, even on radio here, Air America failed..in Madison! -
The 67th VFW National Convention (1966)
FrankBeMe replied to NanciD's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
One year when my dad got the October issue, I added up the total prize money for every category--if I remember right, it wasn't even close to $100,000...probably not even $50,000. I think this was more like University of Alabama calling their band the million dollar band. Just hype. -

FrankBeMe replied to NanciD's topic in Historical Junior Corps Discussions
This is why I was glad my dad was in the VFW. Just for the October issue every year. Note the prize money...yikes! -
Our main ones in Jr corps were the Oak and Bob's Bar.

Or just go to a few synthesizers on the sideline with 100 or so people just marching, dancing and prancing around the field!

Actually St. Vincent's won in 50, 51, 52, 53, lost in 54 and won again in 55 and 56. And lost just two contests in those first four seasons. Sac won in 54, 58 and 60. Cavaliers in 57 (which resulted in a big, on field fight), 59, 61, 62, 63 and 67. Some say 63 was an empty title because them and Sac never met--Sac won Legion didn't go to VFW, Cavies didn't go to Legion..VFW was in Seattle, Legion in Miami. Kilties won in 64, 68 and 69..Troopers in 66 and 70.

In 73 it was Crown Imperial(27 and Black Knights) and Russian Sailor Dance (Black Knights and Commodores). In 69 it was Mountain King (Cavaliers and Blue Stars, same arrangement thanks to Larry McCormick stealing the arrangement from Northernaires who played it in 67 and 68.) In 70 a bunch were playing either Sounds of Silence or Scarabourgh Fair. (Troopers played both)
