  1. I appreciate the love being showed for my alma matter. I dont get to hear much of peoples opinions about us so I like reading these comments. That said... I would disagree with you on 89. I think we were just as aggressive, if not more mabey, but we were not as raw. 89 was a year older and a year more mature than 88. Also, keep in mind that we folded in 86. We came back in 87 and marched 55 brass, of which about 4 were veterans, so 88 was still VERY young. After the success of that year, with a combination of very few ageouts, virtually no attrition and good recruiting, we came out with a much more refined line. Both 88 and 89 have their appeal, but my vote would actually go to 87 Freelancers. Listen to THAT line and then keep telling youself... 51 rookies and an average age of 16! Now TAHT was underrated!
  2. 13. Even though it has said that the Freelancers "have plans to return to the field" on their website, it aint happening. It has said that on the website for about 7 YEARS now!!
  3. OK guys, LAST TIME!!! Before the NEXT time!! :P :P
  4. Perhaps a little reminder about our DCP Community Guidelines is in order. Please, may I draw your attention this way... I am going to make this a one-off general warning to those to whom this applies. If I were to take individual action, I would be closing the thread and suspending at least 4 members, and I would rather not go down that road. Please keep this on topic and refrain from personal attacks. Sometimes, the best thing you can say is nothing at all. Further violations from this point will be dealt with swiftly and without leniency. Thank you.
  5. Not quite sure what this has to do with anything remotely relevant. But, seeing how this is the 2nd thread you have opened today on the topic of Shako eagles, I will let the other one live (in the OT Forums) and close this one. Nighty Night!! :)
  6. Heck, back when I marched, the best weight loss program on earth was Karl Zimny's infamous DEATH BLOCKS!! If you were there, you'll know exactly what I mean. Post show Omaha, 1989 anyone?
  7. Not surprised one bit. Good luck in whatever you choose to do in the future Larry. You put out some fantastic corps at Crossmen!!
  8. This thread is horribly off topic and has run its course. Closed.
  9. Way to go Northern Star. Jubal best be lookin over their shoulders...
  10. Whats really sad is that all the corps in RED are no longer with us.... <**>
  11. Murray state would be a FANTASTIC place for a drum corps show.... Just NOT a DCA show. Murray is in a dry county. It would never work
  12. I would like to see them have a crack at Ralph Vaughn Williams. We did it in Freelancers in 91. It is very brass reliant and they have had fantastic hornlines the last couple of years so I think that RVW could get them in the top 6.
  13. There you go. From the horses mouth. Closed.
  14. Unless Scouts have a REAL off night, 92.6 aint gonna be enough to overtake them.
  15. I am having a real tough time getting my head around the idea of Santa Clara not breaking 90 in a season. Sure doesnt look like they will pull that off this year. When is the last time they went without breaking 90 all season? Must be decades ago!
  16. I once met a guy who swore up and down to me that he marched in the Freelancers at DCI in Madison. In 1986.
  17. Amazing... This thread has been going for almost 6 hours and no mention of the Borg... The miracles never cease!
  18. Got some news for you Elmo, drum corps in Europe (especially Holland and the UK) is alive and well. Whilst they may not have the size or talent pool of a Blue Devils, they are certainly no pushovers. Senators (DCUK) would be a shoo-in for Div II/III finals and would probably win the whole thing. I'd be careful not to speak about that which you know nothing of.
  19. Back on topic, I personally think it is a toss up between 10th and 14th. Anyone can end up anywhere (including Santa Clara IMHO).
  20. Well Kev, 6 years worth of hard work and one tenth of a point let me age out on Saturday on the field instead of Friday in the parking lot. The thing I remember most though was just how much class and maturity every single member of the Glassmen showed that day. It would have been real easy to be bitter towards us (Freelancers) but to my amazement, members of your corps actually came up to ME, shook my hand and told me to kick ### on Saturday night. I have considered myself to be a fan of the Glassmen ever since. A truly class organisation. I was so impressed with that display of sportsmanship, that along with my shoes, I left a Glassmen patch and a Glassmen age outs shoes right there next to mine when I left the field after Finals retreat.
  21. DCI doesn't allow pictures to be sold except by Jolesch. That was the rule even in 2004. Closed.
  22. I will make this perfectly clear... THE NEXT POST I SEE THAT IS PHYSICALLY THREATENING IN NATURE (SERIOUS OR NOT, DOESN'T MATTER), THE POST WILL BE EDITED AND THE MEMBER WARNED AND IMMEDIATELY SUSPENDED. FURTHERMORE, I WILL CLOSE THE TOPIC AS WELL. I AM EXTREMELY SERIOUS ABOUT THIS. POSTS OF THIS NATURE ARE NOT, NOR HAVE THEY EVER BEEN TOLERATED HERE AT DCP. Topics of this nature are hotbutton topics and unfortunately, some of the children on this site are not able to behave. Unfortunately, those very same children wil ruin this for the rest of us.
  23. Really now, what does it matter? Straight, gay, bi, unisexual or eunich. It does not mean a thing. We are ALL part of the drum corps family. Topic closed.
